Granted your numbers are slanted because you live in Nashville. But I did both swaps 7mgte and 1jzgte for under 4000 combined. I did all the work my self including the wiring and spent alot of time sourcing parts and information.

My guys harness 500
Tweaks harness 1000+

See right there 500 bucks saved by researching and not just going with the first thing you come across.

OP's needs don't warrant a R154. A w58 will handle a 1j with no issues. I ran one at 16psi for two years with no issues. So

W58+jz bell 700
R154+ jzbell 1300
Saved another 600 bucks. So just in these two examples I saved 1100 dollars. thus making you 5k swap cost 3900. So yeah bullshit. If you would like I can do a build from my area sourcing parts and post it up for you

Ok I'm tossing the BS flag on this......for one, your GUY, does he offer a lifetime warranty? If anything goes wrong he will skype with the buyer to help them troubleshoot it and if it still is fubar then he will custom make another one and send it back out free of charge? Doubt it.....So that is money well spent.
The other, is where on this screwed up planet are you looking for R154 parts? You can get an R154 for less then $500, and a bell housing brand new from DriftMotion is $340 for R154 and $365 for W58. so that 600 you just saved went to shit because you had bad numbers. also add in a different sump pan, flywheel, engine mounts, shit adds up fast man....You are talking about doing the swap yourself, but you are getting everything second hand, in one of the largest tuning communities around....LA. Some of us are in other areas, where tuners are not as numerous. Which means second hand is nil. We have to get it all new from online stores....In other words, YES 5K IS A GOOD PRICE FOR A SWAP. Consider swapping important things during the work, ie: water pump, seals, plugs, you act like everyone has unlimited access to all parts JZ......yeah for a price. I live in the same area as Supramedical, hell I'm about 2 miles from him, and I did the math on a full swap with me doing all the work....4-5k. That is swapping from a 7MGTE to a 2JZGTE ( stock )

I wasnt sure what was the difference between the gte and the ge-t, but now i do :icon_bigg
The car im going to go ham on is a 91 cressy :biggrinbo

What would really help sift through all the stuff your reading here is a couple things...

1. picture of the car... (us Supra guys like pics.. even if it is of a Cressida (which is our car's sister))

2. Story of your skill level (ie.. planning to do this yourself? Your a professional Mechanic? You put a 7M on your lawnmower once and failed?) Takes some of the guesswork out of what we should say to you...
Also, do you have a place to work on it, is this your daily driver, do you have tools?

3. Budget (a round about story of ... I'm 19.. going to school... can maybe afford 2k, but my dad is Bill Gates.. so Im ok...) There is a lot of routes, but some get really costly... and a lot depend on #2.

I have bought and sold quite a few MK3's and owned a 88 Cressida that was sold to a "drifter" who was unsatisfied with his Rx7 blowing up... so of all the people I have sold cars to, regardless of the extreme amount of warnings I gave them about diving into the car, only one person had the skill/time/money to actually revive the car. Every single other car is sitting in a garage right now as the founder of broken dreams.

Probably the worst thing that I have run across is all the success stories on the forums. They made me dream big, but getting there when I don't share their skill levels and shop space has been a heavy drain on my wallet. I am a perfectionist when it comes to the MK3, and believe me.. perfection is not cheap.

Yeah I am going to call bullshit a 5 to 6 k swap Especially considering he lives in LA. He would have to pay almost nothing in shipping. Any of the motors are plentiful. Quick glance at Craigslist shows a set of JZ to Xchassis mounts for 100 bucks. With all the JZ motors bouncing around he can source almost all swaps parts locally with a little effort.

Disagree if you fucking want. I already agreed the numbers were going to be off already because of region. That still doesn't call for being rude. There's no point in getting hung up on numbers, when they can vary a shitload. OP might even be able to go cheaper than what you're talking about, who knows.

For all we know, maybe the OP doesn't want a high mileage W58. Or, maybe the OP has his own guy that can do wiring for him. There's no way of knowing unless the OP chimes in the thread.

Or, if the OP wants to wait long enough he can just find a decent running 7M-GTE or 1JZ-GTE for even less than what you're quoting. Then, he can just worry about mods and maintenance. 1JZ SC300s, Supras, and Cressidas aren't even that expensive. Problem solved.

Finally someone is actually making sense.

Lol
Arguing about cost and potential is pointless when we are all imposing our own experiences and plans. For all we know the car is intended to be a dune buggy.

The question is 7m or 1j... That's normally not a question that deserved a lot if response. OP needs to be a bit more specific
