So I just finished up a 1jz swap into my 86.5, swapped in the turbo tach from my front clip, hook everything up and and the tach doesn't work. I took the dash out to verify all my ground points with pictures I've found here, and I found one issue:

That is a picture I got from someone on here, I drew arrows to the two questionable areas. On the back of my cluster the green board has the provisions for those two screws, but no holes in the actual board. I'm assuming I need to cut into the board and put in two screws as they are grounding the tach or something?

I hope I was clear enough on that, if you need more clarification on anything, just let me know. Also, just to verify, I no longer need the white box that mounts on the back of the cluster?

Thanks in advance,
Jon

Drilling holes and putting screws into the plastic won't do you much good, unless they are going through the plastic into the tach. I'm not sure what they're for though.

As for the white box, that has the stock boost gauge circuit in it...which I don't believe would even be on NA clusters...

What exactly does the tach adapter do? I know of several cars running a perfectly accurate tach with OEM parts. I have pretty much every piece of pre 89 and 89+ gauge clusters available to me, I just don't know what the right combination is.

I ran a wire straight from the ignitor to the 7mgte tach. It works great! Running the wire is the most annoying part. You gotta take everything apart. Especially if you want to hide the wire.

I think that white box has something to do with your boost gauge and those two holes might be for your cruise control light or something. I forget what they are for.

86.5 with a boost gauge circuit?

Does it have a supermonitor?

No supermonitor, I'm guessing at this point the cluster was swapped with an 87 or 88 turbo cluster. I still have no solid answer on what cluster/tach combination will work :(
