I own a 88 N/A and was planning on swaping in the 7MGTE but after all needed upgrades, ECU, harness, igniter,AFM,intercooler, clutch, fuel, exhaust, the total was around 3200!!!! holy crap, but then i remember a 1JZ clip is only like 2500 bucks, and it'll come with everything i need for know 5 spd, ECU, harness, intercooler, wow its is better in every way! ive always'd dreamed of getting a 1JZ but told myself its out of my league LOL, this make me very excited!! :naughty:

yes im aware of these things, im rebuilding my 7M right now, but id rather spend around the same amount of money and get a ass kicking 1JZ over the 7MGTE.

uh, if you are 5sp swapping the car the right hand drive stuff wont work. you might just be talking about the clutch and stuff.
YOU ALL ARE DUMB!!!
you can do the whole swap with a clip alone. just make your life better with a 3inch downpipe though.
everything you need is on the clip.
fp relay, ecu, hydro fan(best part about a having a clip), ignitor, harness, mounts, intercooler, pipes.......

what all else would you need???
you dont.
do it.

You are probably looking at putting in a new clutch while your at it and you will also need a few parts/tools/whatever that you dont really plan on. I'd say if you throw a clutch in, to budget a minimum $800 over the cost of the clip. But as far as prices, I chose the 1j because I felt it would be about the same cost if not less than trying to drop in a 7mgte especially if you dont have hook-ups.

yes, you'll need the 2jz high pressure power steering hose. you may also need the 2jz banjo bolt. i used the 1jz banjo bolt from the clip, but some people have problems using that one.

you'll also need materials to lengthen you're harness, fluids, spark plugs, battery, a gasket kit would be a good idea too. also your clutch might be toast, mine is. i also broke a couple things, but only the clutch line comes to mind, so i had to buy another one of those.

Why do I get the suspicion that someone is comparing the pricing on an upgraded 7M to the price of a stock 1J?

Honestly, the price between the two isn't that different. The deal killer for me is parts availability after the swap. I can buy 7M parts at literally any Toyota dealership on the continent. I've got a better chance of being hit my lighting and living to talk about it than I do of getting 1J parts at an average dealership - most of them don't even know what you're talking about.

Aw, not this again! Parts can be had for the 1jz at your local dealer. you will not be replacing internals on the 1jz so why would you even care about getting stock bearings, when the 2jz bearings are the same, but you wont need those.

Yes those turbos can be a bitch sometimes, but turbos are not made to last forever. Even CT26's explode. I have been blessed with a good set of CT12a's. My engine and turbos are nearing 200,000 miles and i have not had any issues what so ever with it. I buy good oil (50 dollar oil changes, oil only) and beat the shiet out of it daily. If the turbos go out, oh darn I will just go out and get a nice single and with stock internals and over 200,000 miles go make some more power and have some more fun. Best of all i never check my oil! I put it in and it all comes out 5000 miles later. It doesn't get any more reliable then that folks.

Not cool Andy.....

That's to say the least. It's great to try and help someone, but it can be done without generalizing a hole forum. I for one know a few members on here that are a long ways from dumb. Just my two cents woth.

For the record, if I could, I would go with the 1jz. I don't have one and have never driven one, but I do intend on getting one someday............lol
