Hey guys i have an 89 mk3 and im swapping a 1jz in it and im trying to make sure im fully prepared and know what needs to be done, my supra already has the 1jz style round motor mounts so that out of the was but i need to know wireing stuff, like what gauge wire should i use to lengthen my harness and am i going to have to swap out any connectors. im getting a 1jz from a right hand drive supra so i would think the interior plugs off the harness should work. also what should i do about cooling cause i was thinking about going with a electric fan but i just dont know cause i have no idea what a hydro fan is. the power steering is also getting at me because i believe im going to need to get the different tank and lines. so if any one has and tricks or tips along with some info pleas help me out here cause i wanna do this swap right and make it something to be proud of and that can stomp my buddies tuned wrx lol. thanks

Local to forum Merchant I have purchased many parts from so far.

To get rid of the Hydro fan you are going to need a complete water pump including rear housing from a USDM 2JZGTE. Not an Aristo or a NA I tried both neither worked. It is a simple change over just off with one and replace with the other. If you are going to use the stock rad then you can get the 2j pully and clutch fan , but with an aftermarket one I have heard that it will hit. I havn't got that far so I don't know

This is a good thread about the do and don'ts of wiring
http://www.supramania.com/forums/sh...an-engine..-ive-dug-myself-into-a-deep-hole-(
I am a wiring noob ,But I used the same guage wires as the wires that I was splicing.I was fortunate to have a few old harnesses laying around that acted as donors . In fact a lot of the wires are the right colors.

Drift motion has a really nice braided line to replace the stock line and you can leave the tank were it is at you just need to extend the soft line now.

the way i did my water pump was just remove the clutch fan and put the pulley back on and put a washer between the nut and pulley... do you have a clutch fan or hydro fan? personally if you want to do it right and have the cash flow you can by a 2jz waterpump which can cost you a pretty penny but the way i did it was inexpensive and does work... i know a few guys who are running jz's like this too and don't have any problems.

when it comes to the harness do you know what car the harness and ecu came out of? if it's a jza70 harness and ecu should be pretty easy there's a thread on here, if it's a jzz30 harness and ecu it can be hell i had mad issues when trying to have my harness converted...(also depends on the condition of your harness *cut or uncut*)

I got my entire water pump from this guy

Reed Bowman
garrickwholesale@yahoo.com

I believe he is a parts guy for a dealership that is buying parts and then selling them whole sale. I bought it for around 160 shipped, It came in a factory Toyota box that was inside a larger shipping box, the pump was in a bag and it was either brand new or cleaned better then anything I have ever seen.
I was reading your other thread and wanted to tell you that a Jzz30 swap into a A70 is not that bad. There are way more write ups on it. Plus 92Tealsupra did a complete swap write up
I am swapping in a JZX90 1j in to my car. the JZX has almost NO information on it. I am using the JZZ30 pinouts and tracing wires...sucks. I have a build thread you can look at if you want

well i have a soarer engine which im still trying to get the company to swap the engine cause they sent me that when i paid for a supra engine setup, i saw on another thread that somone said you can get a custom harness made, does any 1 know how much that would cost? im sure not cheap. so im still confused should i solder my harness or crimp it or should i get them sold crimp seal connectors? the solder crimp ones sounds like a good idea but their 30 and up for just 25 of them, last night i spent close to 100 on 4 different sizes of crimps that came 25 in each pack and a sweet pair of crimps, i also got some 1.25in spliit loom and a variable temp heat gun off ebay so im ready for some wiring but i just need to figur out what tiger is going to do about the engine

haha again can guarantee you they will do nothing bro... i specified them (over the phone might i add) that i wanted a JZA70 1jz motor, harness and ecu... i spoke to them through the bullXXXX claims thing they have online and what they wanted to do was just give me a $100 credit...

my suggestion is to not waste your time arguing with them cause even if they do take the motor back, you have to pay for shipping to send it back and a 25% restocking fee... so you actually end up paying way more...

Dr. Tweak (a memeber on here) is highly recommended for any harness work... i would look him up and talk prices to him

from what i understand the motor from the supra, soarer, chaser ect are the exact same (very minor differences) the difference is the harness and ecu... how many rows of pins does you ECU have? two or three? jza70 have 2 rows and jzz30 has 3 rows. usually on the ecu it will say what body the ecu came out of...

bottom
thats kind off what the inside if where the harness looks like

Cooling, I bought a 2j water pump assembly from Driftmotion, because my JZA70 motor set didn't come with the hydrofan. If you're gonna run a bigger radiator than stock, you're likely gonna have to go with an electric fan. I have the PWR radiator in my car, it's damn near twice as thick as stock, and there is hardly any room for a fan. I went with this:

http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/partdetails/Mishimoto/Cooling/Radiator_Shrouds//15194

As for the power steering, I believe all we had to do for mine was replace the return line with a longer line. Got my reservoir from a early 90's Camry if I'm not mistaken, as well as my throttle cable. If I remember correctly my 7mgte throttle cable was too short? The Camry one works just fine though, it's looped around a bit.

Oh, and don't be terribly surprised if your ISCV is shot. It's expensive as all hell to replace, but there's an adjustment via a set screw on the throttle body (I used the one for the non-existent cruise control) bracket. Turn that screw to the right a bit, and it'll raise your idle just a bit, but it'll keep your car from dying if your ISCV sticks like many of them do on 1j's...

Good luck, and if you're staying on stock twins, I highly recommend that you replace the Y-pipe with the ebay one, it's quite nice, but make sure you wrap it, the steel is rather thin. Also, regardless of what turbos you're running, the BC cams are a GREAT idea. ;)

well im running a stock rad with a 2in thick electric fan, and i alredy got the new y pipe, what do i need to wrap it for does it put offto much heat do to how thin it is? and so my throttle cable will be too short? cause i was wondering that. my big concern is getting my wiring figured out

if you have a 7m throttle cable, yes too short go to driftmotion and get the 2jz throttle cable i got mine there and it works....

i'm not wrapping my y-pipe but if you want to wrap it... go to like an autozone or somethign and buy header wrap it's like $45...

Always better to keep heat IN the pipes, so if you can swing the extra $50, it's a good idea. ;)

Also, $68 currently on Driftmotion for that throttle cable. Camry one from a junkyard costs about $5, but it won't be the prettiest thing. Truth be told I don't even notice mine anymore.
