FIL, we speak in thousandths of an inch here. Nobody sells a spark plug gapper in mm. Just thought I'd let you know. Remember, gap the NKK 6097's at .028 and don't forget to heat shrink your coil pack stems while you're there (5 minutes to heat shrink the coil packs).

Adam

I have a feeler gauge with mm which I use for gapping and I believe the tsrm also mentions in mm. :biglaugh:
Yeah always gap your plugs . check the coil packs as cracks in them can cause arcing. Also check your coil plugs itself. maybe brittle and broken and not making good contacts.

My 1jz had the same problem happen all of a sudden after a tune up, I tried changing the plugs, re-gapping them, shrink wrapping the coil packs, checking for leaks, check the ECU capacitors, tried a diff ECU, retuning my AFC(did great on the dyno only hit it once on 6 pulls) and a few other things, what i found out after doing all that is just that i was hitting boost cut. The way to know if you are is if it is happening at the same boost levels all the time at full throttle, drives fine on partial throttle. I cant see your video (no longer available) to verify your problem, so don't quote me on that

Ive thought about that.... It does it AT FULL THROTTLE at around 14-15ish. I just tried the video it still works.

Im gonna start on the plugs and the coil packs tomorrow. See what that does and go from there.

No I havent touched my timing since the swap. I dont know how to mess with it

I will make a good video tomorrow and post up if there are no changes

What do NGK call their plugs over there? do they sell a BKR6E-11 or a BKR6E-0030 (or whatever 1.1mm is in inches) :)

TSRM will talk in mm because the car was designed in a metric country, I talk metric on some stuff and imperial on others cos we have both here (mostly pushrods and iron heads are measured in imperial)

Well there's a major problem right there dude. You need to get a set of NGK 6097 plugs. They are copper and should be changed out every 10,000 miles. It will set you back $15 max for all 6 plugs. The 1J doesn't like platinum plugs. Trust me.
1jz doesn't like platinum plugs? I haven't heard that before.
I run the iridiums and i haven't had any issues. what kind of issues do people see with platinum plugs?

i agree with honestabe, my 1jz runs a whole lot better and is more responsive with the 6097's I tried the platinum plugs and didn't like them.

Alright.... I picked up some copper ngk. they didnt have the 6097 so i got the v-series? I gapped them at .028. My coil packs are perfect. Not one crack. Went for a test run and DAMN! Car is pullin really hard. Its atleast 30-40% more responsive. Now Im boosting back down to 10, sometimes hitting 11 or 12. No more 15 lbs. I tried to floor it a couple times and it was smooth all the way out. ... till I blew a coupler and hit boost cut. I was in 1st gr or 2nd (cant remember) but I definately felt it "cut" then boost again. It was around 5,000 rpms. But the previous time I got the car up to 7,000 rpms with no cut.

I still feel like the car dies out if Im at a high rpm for a period of time. Am I lacking fuel? Or does that mean I need to go single! :evil2:

i dont know and couldnt tell you as i haven't tried them, but a quick search yielded the results below, i dont know how true this is, so i would use use the info wisely and do a little more research.

Yeah, i have read those before and i have been running iridiums on both of my supras and my bike, but i really don't have anything to compare them to. I was just wondering if anyone believes the copper ones are better then the iridiums. I haven't had any issues, but a bit more response would always be cool :)

Iridiums seem to work just as well as the coppers in 1JZ's, some people swear by the coppers and some by iridiums, but there doesn't actually seem to be any real difference...

You should replace copper plugs a lot more often than you do iridiums, but the price difference more than makes up for that... :)

Cool, that was what i was thinking, but i was just shocked to hear that info on the platinums. I know iridiums and similar to platinum, so i expected similar results, my bad.

I just installed my MBC and am also experiencing breakup after 12psi. Will install a fresh set of 6097's @ .028 and report back....

I am running 6907's now, but they have been in for a year and I believe I gapped them at .032, can't remember now.
