14" or 16" Electric fan(s) on my car ?

Guys, im looking to do a turbo swap within the next few weeks and was wondering what you think would be better as far as the replacement of the stock ,belt driven fan. I'm going to be keeping the A/C so the acc. fans are staying......as far as primary cooling....Whats best ? 14" fan or 16" fan? What kind of CFM's should i be looking for ?

Stick with the stock fan.

I believe the newer MR2 electric fans fit our radiator. No idea what size they are though.

I've been toying with the idea of putting like a 14" pull type fan in between the intercooler and the radiator (I've removed all A/C stuff). Here's what I was thinking of doing: make a new fan shroud (the smaller fans on the right are outa there also) to keep that air flowing where it needs to be. I may have to leave it open on the right hand side to let the air from the new fan to flow through the radiator and into the engine bay. There is PLENTY of room to mount a pull type fan to the right, just in FRONT of the radiator (where the old A/C condensor was). Another good thing about this is that the fan would actually promote more air to flow through the intercooler also as it will be right behind it PULLING the air though (hense the pull type fan option).

This mod should help to keep the engine cooler at lower speeds (the stock fan is staying of course, I may look into getting an upgraded fan like I've seen on some hot rods) while the stock fan keeps the temp down at higher RPM's. The electric fan can also be rigged to stay on while the engine is turned off to help cool it down faster and lower the chances of heat soak.

What do you guys think? Has anyone done this yet? I've been thinking about doing it every since I did away with the A/C. Another plus is that it would be A LOT cheaper that a set of dual FAL fans that aren't as good at higher RPM's.

The reason for this is because ive seen 2 fan clutches of mine die on me and overheat the engine. I will keep the stock fan on for right now but i will add it on when i get everything done first

Where those fan clutches used? If they were new they shouldn't have done that.

Does the idea I posted up sound very effective to you guys though? Just wondering because I was going to do this if I got a general OK from the majority here.

Dual flex-a-lite fans, it made such a huge difference on my car. I was very impressed.

from what i can tell from Summit racing is that the Perma-cool 14 inch fan works best. it pulls 2,950 cfm and the max rpm is 1,800 rpm. only pulls 9.5 amps too

tacoma or tundra ? I would like to know this.......i already have the turbo fan and clutch on there now and it does better then the stock N/A fan. The old fan clutches i had one was new and the other one was on the engine when i got it.

I got the imperial fan (freebie) that advance sells and the thermostat and relay for it too. It's an 14" puller/pusher fan and the CFM's are around 2,500 or something.

It's a Tundra fan and after my own personal experience, it will pull a crapload of air. But be warned, it will lock up often and hurt your fuel economy, but if you have your foot in it a lot, you probably don't care about MPG anyway! Also, it is louder if that matters at all.

2001 tacoma V6 is the one I have.
In all honesty, it's a very nice looking unit, the clutch looks beefier, bigger fins, nice orange hub, etc., but I do not notice that it works better than the stocker myself.

I had the same thing (one was OE, the other i bought brand new)

Using ford svt contour efans w/ SPAL controller. Does good w/ stock rad 95% of the time - when its hot (90+) ambient both fans seem to run alot, but i have never had an overheating problem with this setup (running since jan).

Regardless of fan set-up, I think it would be money well spent on a nice alum rad when it comes time to replace your current one. (Koyo is next on my list).

i have a PWR,and it was one of the best investments i've made. it's been going good for at least 5 years.
WARNING: Do not run stock fan shroud with thicker radiator!!!

I was thinking of doing duel fans........14 inch as the puller for the stock replacement, and another 14 inch for a pusher in front of the A/C core. I am going to do some work on the radiator support...... so what you guys think?

If you don't plan on using A/C get that core outa there like I did. I will be putting a pull type fan in it's place.

I'm going to be keeping the A/C, but i am gonna modify the A/C CORE SUPPORT.....didnt know if you realize what i meant. I got a good idea on how i can make that work with the A/C lines in front of it.
