The 1jz and 2jz heads flow better in their own right.

The 2jz head flows MORE air SLOWER, whereas the 1jz flows LESS air FASTER.

The reason for the 1.5jz is so you have the torque of the 3 liter, with an extremely fast flowing head for FASTER spool with a large turbo.

The whole reason it was concieved is mainly DRIFTING. The guys wanted really low end torque but high end power with a larger turbine (like the 3037S from HKS or the GT30 garrett).

So you can spool a large turbo quicker and have a tad bit more torque.

It does. But some people have OCD ( obsessive compulsive disorder ) and "must have" that extra torque.

Whatever makes people happy and gives them a smile when they drive.
I love the sound of 1.5jz. They DO sound different.

HamsMkIII has one heck of a sounding 1.5jz. Sounds ALMOST like a RB26 of the same tune.

LMFAO ^^

Lifetime Ban

In a nutshell, the advantages are a cheap, reliable stroker kit that bolts up to an existing 1JZ swap. Who wouldn't want an instant .5 litres?

sure, but it was a long standing rumor that this setup would perform better than a 2jz.

as a cheaper alternative, sure, but not for preformance advantages.

Someone having a MkIII and saying "I want to put a 1.5JZ into my car" would look moronic, but desiring one later down the road is not so bad, as a rebuild option. I think this would be best for someone with a worn out 1JZ that is already in their car.
New OEM Toyota shortblock, instant 0.5L and then go tune air/fuel. While you are at it, you could probably send the head to a shop for a rebuild, port/polish and valve job, depending on goals, budget and desire.

thats what i did..... i had a 1jz, crank walked it and decided to up the anty(sp?) just a lil and got a 2jzge....... they go for dirt cheap if u are hunting at the right time...... i got mine for $450.... sold the head for $400, sold the intake for another $100, sold the exhaust and various other small parts for $75.... all in all i made money off my 2jz :D

:drink1: I hate to resurrect an old thread, but lets place homage to Simann's last post!

I never thought that seeing somebody nailed with a lifetime ban would actually make me happier.

hey has any one put 2j head on 1j block ? some one got to ahve doen that befor

Yes. A friend on mine used a 2jzgte head and twin turbos on a 1jzgte bottom in Toyota Mark II here in Jamaica. He is using stock 1jz management with 2jzgte 550s and Greddy Emanage.

The result is that the car is now significantly laggier with the 2jzgte turbos vrs the 1jzgte turbos but with much more upper RPM power.

I have just been reading through this Thread and i can bet this has already been covered but please humor me

I have had my 7M crap out on me again for the 5th or 6th time. I am just getting tired of it and wish to find an engine that is a little more reliable. Is it just a pipe dream thinking that either a 1J, 1.5J or 2J would be any better in the car and more reliable for a DD situation.

is there any particular engine that would be better over others. I would like to build a DD that has about 400RWHP - 450RWHP when i am done. I do realize that if you start with a 2J then you dont have much to do, to be get there. But is it worth the cost and is there more reliability there with going to the 2J for the cost.

I am really not looking for a power crazy Engine but Maybe something that i can setup up run daily and posible turn up a few settings on the weekend for some fun racing.

Most importantly would be the reliability for me. I wish to have a car that i know everyday i can get into and start up with out some major issue.

I know what i am writing is very vauge and like a baby talking but i am trully clueless heading into this teritory.

obviously the 1J is JDM but what is a better course to follow with the 2J if that is the engine to go with USDM or JDM?

This is not an imedate project for me since i am way to short on funding now. I would like to know what path i should follow for my needs and goals. What will be entailed with following that path. Like what parts exactly will be needed just for a basic swap initialy and some ideas of cost.

I guess to sum it up what is the best engine for that power level while keeping reliability and keeping costs low as posible? Not limiting it to cheapest but best choice for money spent.

2jz na->T is the way to go.

used 2jzge Motor w/harness - 500
Thick HG and bolts - 200
AEM w/sensors - 1500
wb o2 - 250
1jz bell housing - 350
1jz flywheel - 300
BIC JZ motor mounts - 150
Ebay 2jzge turbo mani - 200
T-Series Turbo - 500
Custom IC Pipes - 100 for bends

~4100 minimum and you have an engine that can handle some abuse.

If you set your ceiling at 5000, you can get some more things like injectors....
Obviously these figures include some do-it-yourself expertise. YMMV These are the bare minimum items to run it.
