Auto's are slower, too. Im sure you agree with all this
just wanted to add that there is NO room in a f1 car for a normal shifter, maybee not a clutch eitherAdjuster said:Some of the new robot/servo shifted and clutch'd transmissions are the fastest in the world. (Thus the reason they use them in F1 and many other forms of motorsports.)
Traditional "automatics" that use a tourqe converter are going to become rare as this technology advances, or at the very least, will become hybridized to fit into the latest designs.
Look at the Veyon to see the future of transmision design. (Never really is out of gear, just the milliseconds between engaging the two clutches and dual racks of gears.)
No loss of boost pressure, no loss of power with slipping tourqe converters, or the heat they produce and then you lose when cooling the fluid. (All heat is energy loss if you think of it that way.)

AHEM
Adjuster said:Back on subject, they have a clutch, or even clutches, but they are actuated by the computer and robotics that also shift the transmission. The cool part is with an electric throttle, and the right programing, the engine blips the throttle between shifts, and matches engine rpm to transmission rack rpm, so no need to double clutch, the computer does it all for you. Very easy on the gears on acleration and decleration.

What makes you think our/my car is riced out? My car is pretty much stock and I have no plans to rice it out.Snotcycle said:except for the fact that they are pushing 800+hp through the transmission :biglaugh:
sorry?
I see way too many riced out cars, 99% of which are auto versions of something that could've been cool. Your riceboy counterparts have given automatics a bad name, if you can show me otherwise then do so.
On the topic of losing boost between shifts, i have the SOGI short shift done and with the stock recirc-BOV system i can spool very quick as:
A) by the time i'm in the next gear and back on the gas, not all the boost has leaked out
B) the boost leaking out is feeding the cold side of the turbo to keep it spooled
So it would seem the only lag is created by having to re-pressurize the intake piping

bonus12 said:now why does an auto beat a manual, what with a torque converter and all?
i dont buy this.
suprarich said:I have one of each, with the same size turbo, the auto will beat the manual, all other things being equal.
Good to hear. :drink1: to Supras as Toyota designed them.Ma70.Ent said:What makes you think our/my car is riced out? My car is pretty much stock and I have no plans to rice it out.
