I have a US car. This is day two of no problems, no starting lag, nothing. I would normally have the problem occur 2-5 times a day, with the "lag" occuring almost every startup.
How much of the original thread did you read? He explains the differences between UK and US cars a bit in there. Specifically the UK cars not having an auto theft feature and no starter relay in the passenger footwell. It was either that or replace that starter solenoid wire (with the brown...
Drove her around all day today and had NO problems. I'm pretty damn confident this was the problem. The starter relay mod is a must if you're having the troubles I was. Very simple to do.
The original post: post #64 explains howto and #74 has a picture that may be helpful. If a better one is...
Alright man, I'm not going to get in a pissing contest with you. We're all adults here, and I'm going to just walk away from this. You can reflect whatever image of yourself you want to the rest of the world, but I'm not a flamer. Thanks for your input though.
I got to sit on this for a while, but as of now it appears the starter relay mod worked. The car has been firing up no issues after I installed that relay. That wire that plugs into the starter just isn't suited to that job, but it works the relay just fine.
I found a thread about creating a second starter relay to relieve the stress on the weak little wire that goes to the starter solenoid now.
If it works, I'll let you guys know the outcome, and post some pictures of the how-to to better explain it.
Well i just tried starting the car in gear and it won't start, but it is definetly a different clicking noise. I can hear a clicking from the fuse box where the passenger is, which i believe would be the starter relay. When my car is having the problem, I can hear both the starter relay clicking...
nope! it's an automatic. I'm going to be doing a swap pretty soon though, I have the tranny sitting at my house. The automatic is kinda fubar now as it is, so I don't know if that could somehow be related? seems unlikely, but with this car I dont know.
Okay, so my particular problem has been going on for quite a while now. It started off happening once in a blue moon, then it got really bad.
First, to describe the problem. I put the key into the ignition, and when I turn to start it, I can hear the starter clicking, but it won't turn at...
I'm thinking of doing this swap eventually, and I tried searching under "manual swap wiring" and couldn't get this Dr. Jonex thread. What did you search under to find it?
