    mk3 in a racing mag...

I think time trials will be a good fit and in certain classes I'm hoping I'll be competitive (Nasa's classing is points based so I'll be somewhat stockish for a while and if I've got the money later could try a fasssst class) Haven't run Jefferson yet but I've been to Summit Main a few times...

    mk3 in a racing mag...

Thanks folks, was cool to see it in there. For the question about oil system, no mods to it (stock filter and cooler, original engine w/ new rings ~150k (using oil) now at 199k, 10w40 Valvoline w/ BG MOA) I don't overrev the engine though (shifting at 5.5k-6k) Thanks for that link though...

    mk3 in a racing mag...

Hey everyone, I got into GRM (Grassroots Motorsports) this month and figured I'd share the article (Thanks to Nick on SF for the link) This was from VIR in the Fall, to bad the 944's and C6's I was playing with aren't in the frame too. See yall out there, Brian

Whose MK3 at Summit Point 12hrs?

Sweet a mk3 still doing enduro stuff, that's very cool. If yall find out who it is let me know, I'd like to get some info from them. I wonder if that duct is for a driver cooling suit? I've seen those on several pics of mk3 race cars. Brian

    So where's all the weight???

I've tried to trade talk with anyone doing any racing with their mk3 the past couple years and so far the list is pretty short. I did talk to a guy in Wi. that has done quite a bit of modifying and has has comp. prepped mk3 (7M) below 3000 lb. He mentioned the standard lightened parts and some...

Cheapest "track" platform to start with.

Most any Honda makes a great platform and lightweight leads to less cost (easier on brakes, suspension, tires) Miatas and E30's have gotten very popular and have big series with good competition. I for one like the V8-FC and have also seen a 5.0 in a E30 on track. Anything's fun out there but...

Supra Meet Richmond Va June 14th

I'm going to try and make this as long as the schedule is clear. Btw, there's a NASA auto-x at Langley speedway this weekend (Sun.) if anyone's interested. It's right across from the NASA research facility (no relation to the racing folks)...

But you'd be on the wrong side of the car for those right handers. Point-byes could get confusing :)

A70 Circuit Racers - Which Diff?

It's just surprising to hear, I've seen the Beamers doing 140-50 with them but also read about a mk4 guy chunking his (stock is Torsen I believe) on track. Were the ambient temps really high at the track? That's some speed for a 4.30, must be revhappy? I've still only used stock coolers...

I'm trying to stick in my class so haven't gone to a bigger size, might try 255 all around if I can work the balance out (right now it would probably make the car tail happy again) I'm hoping to pick up some used RA-1's in the current sizes, I think it would help pickup a lot of time. For...

A70 Circuit Racers - Which Diff?

1J, was the vent blocked? (I've run mine this way before after masking to repaint but luckily it was just auto-x) I still don't see why that's happening, a lot of BMW guys run Torsens and don't have problems. The front pinion is even groved to retain oil on the bearing. Keep in mind, that's...

A70 Circuit Racers - Which Diff?

Good point IJ, this may be the reason I've had a couple snap spin situations in hairpin corners. I had forgotten how the Torsen is a multiplier but anything times zero is zero. There is always learning to anticipate this, you can get a lot of traction out of it.

I've got exhaust, filter, AMS IC & 2.5" pipes, Techtom ecu, 550's/Lex/AFPR and an untuned MAFTPro at 9.6:1 AFR (haven't changed any settings yet) The bottom end is original w/ 190k, replaced rings about 6-7 years ago to reduce using oil while going to school. That patch job has held up pretty...

A70 Circuit Racers - Which Diff?

The 3.73 isn't bad, it's what I used for half of last seasons auto-x's (which I won the class) As far as the Torsen, people breaking them are launching on slicks, for track stuff you don't launch the car. I'd like to know if anyone has had trouble at high power with one other than drag stuff though.

    DUNNVILLE LAPPING DAY MAY 25th

If it's a 4 hr. session you'll be much more than exhausted :) This is bargain as far as track time goes. Most events in our area are 300-400 for 2.5-4 hours of track time. Hope some of yall will get out there and have fun on track. Brian

A70 Circuit Racers - Which Diff?

My vote is for the Torsen (JZA70) but I'm not sure why the 1.5/2 ways are perferred by some folks (adjustable preload?) Remember, any clutch type diff is going to wear and the packs will need to be replaced. The torsen won't wear as it's mechanical. I can throttle steer like before and hang the...

Thanks, someone asked for some higher rez pics. There are links to some in this thread: http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59285&page=2 They're from an event last fall but no changes to the car since then (thinking about ditching the Volks soon and using the RPF1's for track...

I'm in 2 (last event was first one in Gp. 2) I didn't ask when I could move to 3 but the instructor was asking about doing competition stuff. You gotta get good bushings, the nylons I have really made the car give much more feedback. I'm working on a susp. setup, thought the Megans might be too...

    New ACT clutch slipping :(

Is this possibly a driver error? I put ~700 miles on my new clutch and then went to a track. It slipped a fair amount in 4th (more than the stock one ever had) Put some more miles on it and went to a bigger track, no problems in all gears and pulled better than before. I was still getting used...

    Bilsteins blown?

FWIW, my Ohlins aren't nearly as stiff as the Tokicos when compressed by hand.
