Oil Cooler Required? What weight Synthetic Oil 3000mi Race on fresh Race 7M-GTE

So the opposite of the opposite Ian or you're too tired to make sense :) Sorry, didn't see the date on the post but was searching for similar.

    polished pistons?

Agreed although I'm not sure how much a highly polished piston would resist carbon buildup. Certainly not as much as a thermal coating would. Good point about the transfer of height, this is one of my questions about the popularity of polished radiators and intercoolers. Shiny, metallic...

Oil Cooler Required? What weight Synthetic Oil 3000mi Race on fresh Race 7M-GTE

I think it depends on how you define hard driving. Do you mean long extended periods of high speed or do you mean high throttle and load? Keep in mind a higher efiiciency/capacity radiator will also help reduce oil temps some as it's able to remove more heat from the engine. The stock oil...

    Where to race????

In addition to SCCA check out NASA, Trackdaze, Chin and many others that offer track time. Keep in mind to race you'll need a properly prepped car and a license (with the required experience wihch is invaluable in keeping you safe) Those clubs all offer track time though which lets you get on...

    Engine Lifespan..?

I waited until the engine had 17 years on it and 190k miles to get into motorsports. Amazing that it's held up to that abuse but it doesn't hold the power like it used to, guess the seal degrades with use. I still wouldn't be surprised to find some hone marks at teardown like we did 10 years...

Machine work help & recommendations ???

I'm looking for some info on machine work that's commonly done or a good idea to have done. I've been looking around and talking to some machine shops that were recommended but aren't familiar with Supra engines. Here are my questions: -Is micro finish absolutely necessary if block and...

    So......

Hopefully I can make it, don't have any track weekends in May but a couple of other things. Funny how the older you get the less time to get it all done.

    Rev Limit

Any techtom dealers still out there, a new map is one method. When I got mine I asked for stock rev limit since it's been the original bottom engine. Not sure what I'll do with the new engine but I don't plan to use that rev range often.

    So......

Checking out machine shops trying to decide which to choose and finally build the engine... Gotta put harnesses in, change springs, rebuild shocks, new bumper, rebuild brakes, change swaybar setup, the list goes on and the winter off-season is going by quick. Probably need to try and find...

    Piston/Rod Combo

Any concerns with the higher comp. ratio of the Wisecos? Haven't found much info here about that either.

    Billet rear diff cover......

Billet would transfer more heat (assuming the same fin design) but the price seems really high. It'd have to be a billet case for that price (cast material plus unit and R&P is heavy)

project who said supras are to heavy for track cars

That's going to be one powerful brake system! Yeah, should last longer than OEM rotors since they'll manage heat better. Looking forward to pics of them installed. Was that a mk3 stoptech kit or just rotors/calipers that you're making brackets for?

project who said supras are to heavy for track cars

That's an amazingly low weight, I've taken out ~200 and am now 3650 w/ driver and rollbar. I can't imagine getting near 3100 much less 2700. That's gonna be a fun car on track. Have you looked into replacement rotor costs? I know they'll last longer than stock but still rotors are a wear...

Front brake cooling duct in place of the Fog Light

Are you running sensors or getting someone to take measurements as you come off a hot lap? I checked with my temp gun this weekend after a cool down lap and laps around paddock and the calipers were still in the 350 range (this was w/ 55 deg. ambient temps) Rotors had dropped to ~450 by that...

Front brake cooling duct in place of the Fog Light

Here's an update with the ducts I added to my car. I removed the foglights and brackets to leave open holes. Tried a couple pre-made ducts but none would quite fit even with cutting. The holes in the 87-88 bumper are roughly 5.5x2.75 so 3" hose won't fit and most available ducts have an opening...

    Sway bar Testing

Thanks for updating this Jeff, I'm trying to square up tires and this will be helpful. Was running ST F/R bars with 235/255 and had lots of oversteer. Swapped to a stiffer front bar and it's nuetral-ish ;) again. I think the Whiteline adj. rear might be just what is needed to run square sizes...

NASA race weekend at VIR lots of pics

As for the question on parking, on a big weekend we'll have 350+ cars participating with NASA (races, HPDE, hyperdrives) and then the tow vehicles that many have and spectators. Still there's plenty of room. VIR is like a Country club with the scent of race gas and brake pads in place of golf...

NASA race weekend at VIR lots of pics

Thanks for the pics, you can almost see my brake ducts here: You should've come over and introduced yourself in the paddock (I was the only mk3 or Supra for that matter) there so I'm easy to spot. I see you found my buddy's LS2 FD, I can't hang with him now that he's learning to really...
