He made incorrect statements regarding his symptom of smoke at start up, or he is making it up to save face on the internet. Which in and of itself is bizarre, all things considered.
Opinions are not needed. If the seal is worn like the cam covers, oil on the top of the head that is hot will pull into a cylinder as the cylinder cools.
You don't have to have blue smoke for oil. It can be more black or even more white. And white can also be unburned fuel.
If it smokes only at start up, the cylinder has filled with some oil. It could also be the center cover called "cylinder head cover number 3" by Toyota.

I love his project. I have an LM7 in the driveway myself. And it hauls ass up to 30 mph in the Yukon. He has saved a few grand over what IJ did with his block. Not that IJ was in the wrong or even close to it.

I want to see his dyno with that cam and those heads. It should be healthy and fast. I also like the idea of the taller gear to pull against.
You might try the used Toyota gear that is close to 3.5:1. I forget the exact ratio. Any thought to the T56 with the 2.66 first gear? I think one of the others is 2.97 first gear.
Recheck your math. Great idea, you are doing it right. When I read the thread title I was thinking somebody needs to do an LS7, if they can find one at a good price.
