    5m crank in a 7m, or just go 5m?

This is pretty cool!: Engine Displacement Calculator 85mm (3.346") bore and stroke would make it a 2.89L engine. 7m with 91mm X 83mm would be 2.95L. I guess there is a little extra volume from the head also. Here's the 7M guru question of the week: How many CC's are there in a 7M head?

    5m crank in a 7m, or just go 5m?

The Ranger has already had more Toyota engines in it then any Ford ever! (in the bed) :biglaugh: So did they sell the good crank machine and then buy a cheap one to make the 7m cranks? :biglaugh: That sounds like a winner! My oldschool JZ  85mm pistons with 85mm stroke would...

Why I ditched my 7MGTE and went 2JZ NAT with AEM

Couldn't you just keep the distributor but run an inexpensive ignition box like msd 6a or crane hi-6?

    5m crank in a 7m, or just go 5m?

Toyota likes to get as much mileage as possible (no pun intended) out of their block castings. They usually change other parts that are easier to manufacture like rods and pistons.

    5m crank in a 7m, or just go 5m?

I was only assuming the rods would be custom (or a from a different application) because I don't think anyone makes aftermarket 5m rods. I would like to get upgraded rods just because of the fact that I don't know how much I will eventually push this engine and the stock rods are really the...

    5m crank in a 7m, or just go 5m?

It's going to be more of a rebirth then a retirement :biglaugh: The 7m in the car now has been through lots of experiments with 4 different turbos and different fuel management setups and it's still running strong but it is starting to use a little more oil then it should. I think we were a...

    5m crank in a 7m, or just go 5m?

I have the Stinger standalone in the car already so the knock sensors are not going to be used at all, but I think it would be easier to go exactly with what you said: everything 7m but the crank and rods.

For thoes with 1jz and heaters

There are only two big coolant hoses going into the firewall. There are only two big coolant hoses at the back of the engine. The drivers side hose on the engine goes to the drivers side heater core pipe. The coolant hose above the turbos at the back goes to the heater core pipe close to the...

For thoes with 1jz and heaters

You could route the hose right from the fitting on the head into the heater core and eliminate the need for the valve at all. Keep in mind that Joe's 1J was done before I was doing 1J harnesses, Mike did the harness and there were some accessory items he used to omit like ac and heater.

    5m crank in a 7m, or just go 5m?

I have a 1jz Supra already. I want to do something different for my 88, I want it to be M series, and I want to use the parts I already have in the car like harness, turbo, exhaust system, oil cooler setup, etc... Something like building the 7M engine I personally would want. I like the 7M for...

That is certainly a possibility! How about the oil pump in the 5m? Any input from anyone on that?

    5m crank in a 7m, or just go 5m?

Yes, but if I can find a rod that has the correct specs then it might not need to be custom priced.

where'd you learn how to work on cars?

The Chilton's manuals are pretty good in that respect, they are written in laymen's terms. The first engine I ever built was a VW 1641cc, and I did it by myself with the Chilton's manual.

where'd you learn how to work on cars?

I trust books and manuals over advice given on forums :icon_wink Advice is just advice, it's a good idea to verify that it is correct, and consider who is giving it. Not saying that there is a lot of bad advice given here, but how do you know without further research?
