    7M-GE Valve Shim thickness equation

Here's an approach that allows you to maximize the shins you have. Measure the thickness of all the shims and record it. Put sharpie identifiers on them like I1....I12 and E1...E12 to identify where they are now. Measure the valve lash by the book method with the cams in the positions shown...

    Help! Supra doesn't run right

You have to wonder why this happened in the first place. Is it a rubbing contact? I would just carefully solder it after cleaning it with a brush or razor blade. Don't apply too much heat, or it could melt.

    Power Steering Noise

The mesh screen is in the reservoir near the bottom. If you take the reservoir off you can back flush it manually. Check the belt tension and for liquid contaminating it causing slippage (Squealing). The idle air valve is activated when turning the steering wheel at idle. It allows a little...

    Power Steering Noise

The only thing that comes to mind is a collapsed hose or debris plugging up the flow of fluid. That's why I suggested a flush with new. If the hoses are old it might be time to replace them. Take a turkey baster and draw up fluid from the reservoir to see if there are bits and pieces of rubber...

    Power Steering Noise

It sounds like air is getting in the system. Do you have any leaks? Try jacking up the front wheels and moving them manually from lock to lock to bleed. Check the fluid level at that point to see if it's low. You can also get a squealing sound if you're running the engine and you hit the lock...

Suggestions for Replacement Lines to and from the Oil Cooler

I bought a 25 foot box of Derale 13017 (Continental, ContiTech) 3/8 engine oil/transmission/ power steering hose to replace the oil cooler circuit hose and power steering low-pressure hose. 10 years later I'm still using hose from the box. Maker website.

    1987 Supra Turbo Manual

If yours aren't giving you any trouble, don't bother. Try to find OEM if possible. eBay is a possibility, but avoid nasty ones, or unknown mileage. Expect to pay blood money though. Rock auto has them under CV axle, but probably China made. Maybe someone else has a aftermarket suggestion.

    Oil filter o ring

It appears that this is still available from US Toyota dealers parts counters for about $6. I just used a smear of Permatex ultra black silicon on top of the old gasket with no leaks.

    Oil filter o ring

Here's the actual part number of what you're looking for 96732-31070. It's the large O-ring that goes between the filter bracket and the block. What I did in a pinch was to use a thin smear of Permatex ultra black silicone on top of the old gasket. Here's a Japan parts website with the...

    Clutch not engaging

Put a little dab of hi temp bearing grease where the tip of the plunger contacts the fork. You could also pull the fork out and grease its points as described in the manual. The fork is held in lightly by spring tension. Use a flare nut wrench if possible, when disconnecting / connecting the...

    Clutch not engaging

Slightly open the bleeder nut when the pedal is up. Push the pedal to the floor. Close the bleeder nut then raise the pedal back up and repeat until no bubbles are present in the hose and the fluid color is clear. Its the same procedure for brakes and clutch. Always be careful not to run dry at...

    Clutch not engaging

If the clutch master cylinder is leaking internally you should see fluid draining out the back into the driver's compartment. Try bleeding the system at the slave cylinder with fresh fluid. I like Valvoline synthetic DOT 3 & 4. Get a one-man check valve bleeder, or attach a tight fitting...

    MK3 carrier replacement

Here's a photo from my 1987 service manual showing the little notches in the bearing facing to the rear of the car. In the online 1990 manual this is not as clear, since they don't circle it. Also be aware that the drive shaft needs to be "in phase" to minimize vibration. Here's a photo from...
