This is correct. The pre 89 brackets are slightly longer and are at a different angle than the 89+. Some 88's have the newer style mounts yet some 89's have square !!!!. Basicly if they are round they are 89+ style and if they are square they are pre 89.

Once you remove the interior trim, it is held on my two or three bolts. There is holes to stick the socket into, You will need a 1/4 drive 10mm deep socket to fit on it. make sure to not drop the nut behind the sheet metal wen removing it.
