Some update... Finally !
Project has come to an end. Only the 3.5 gear differential is left to be installed, but will take a while to get it on the car since I want to practice on the current stock 3.7 that I have and feel the gearing and performance with this setup. The 3.5 gear waits in the...
Car is not running now. Sold the AEM v1 ecu. Waiting for the AEM series 2 ecu and some AEM pressure valves for safety feat./logging.
Also I just got the 3.5 gear / built Weir stage 1 LSD differential, and I would like to install it and it will need to be broken in...
So, it will take some time...
Which adapter? The reverse movement adapter is custom, which is used to alter the direction of the V160 wheel since in the R154 is the opposite. It is also built to reduce the speedo output since the V160 uses different will pattern by + 17%, so the adapter has around - 17 % speedo output to...
True... And try to get in my shoes, I am located in Europe , Greece. All of my performance parts came from U.S. , Japan, and few from U.K.
You can get an R154 crossmember from a member here..
Yes I still have the oem stock R154 crossmember. But it stays with the R transmission as well as all the other parts from my Supra.
Nothing that was worked, customized, altered was the original part from the car. All parts were purchased individually for the V160 swap.
Didn't want to mess with...
Exactly...well said. But I got a feeling that using the 3.5 rear diff ratio, having a higher rev limit 8000-8500 rpms easily done with a built JZ motor, and running big tire / wheels combination like 285-40/18"....it will be like running oem mk4 drivetrain gearing ;-)
Did the math and I will...
As a community we needed a 'how to' for this swap done the proper way.
Anyway, car is in the garage now, waiting for some parts. Also ordered from Toyota dealer the two rear seals of the V160 cause it seems there is a small leak at the rear of the transmission. Should have replaced these when...
Also a member here on Supramania.com aka 'Piratetip' named Nick Tipit , and friend of mine in the United States will built my new mk3 differential.
It will be a used US spec diff core with new oem Toyota parts . The LSD will be upgraded with the Weir Stage 1 performance kit,
and the oem ring...
Well , I took it for a spin some days ago and the test drive went well. Smooth shifting and every gear went in nicely. The Reverse needs some force to be thrown in but I am used to it from the R154 . Now the car is back in for the final job and to adjust some stuff...
-I will change the Toyota...
Any update ? Just curious how it will end up.
I still think even the later Nissan CD009 edition 6 speed trans should be kept under 700lbs of torque...around 800-900hp depends on the power setup of each car.
The R154 has been in the global automotive life for exactly 3 decades and has proven...
Something I noticed after everything was installed back in like rubber boot, leather trim, shift knob etc. , is that it wouldn't fully lock
gears 1st and 5th while shifting. 1st was at the limit but 5th was off the limit. Troubleshooting the issue I found out that the oem MA70 center console...
Thanks! When I finish the complete swap and the car running, we will get to the new diff.
I have to check my issue first... you know, so we can continue our plan.
Tested shifting the V160, and all gears go in properly. Started the car and moved it front and reverse.
The HKS triple clutch is a bit loud as I expected to be and it is damn grabby with a very narrow clutch pedal drive point...
I need to get used to it. The V160 is also louder in operational...
Some info about the driveshaft.
- From diff flange to the center bearing chassis hole is 70.1 cm distance.
- From the center bearing chassis hole is 55 cm distance.
- From diff flange to the V160 trans flange is 125.1 cm total distance.
I got a stock oem diff and rear subframe never...
I kept the oem mk3 exhaust hook which is located on the oem R154 transmission's crossmember along with the Ground wire, it
just needed a slight mod to make it fit right
Connected the speedometer cables along with the ODM gadget. Wrapped it with heat insulator also and make it fit steady up...
