    Race Ready 7M

I'm thinking that I may need to purchase another oil cooler that will fit in the area behind the driver's side fog light. I have that area fitted with an air guide and duct to cool the drivers side front brake. My plan is to keep the current air guide used for the brake and use ducting to...

    Race Ready 7M

Yesterday, I went for a drive through 14 miles of "commuter traffic" that had an average speed of <10 MPH. Sure enough, the temp gauges for both the oil and coolant rose, but were well WNL. The ambient temps were 85 F, relative humidity 28-31%, with a light breeze 8-10 MPH (according to National...

Road racing on the track w/o a thermostat

I'm planning on it. One item I forgot to add in this thread is, I pulled the oil cooler, spring and plunger out of the stock oil filter mount so now the oil pressure is maintained behind the thermo pellet in the RX-7 oil cooler. Those numbers are between 43-45 psi, under load, from between...

I'm also looking at upgrading to a top brand name oil cooler: http://porterfield-brakes.com/product_info.php?productID=4402 . Only if the planned fix fails though.

Actually 3P, the H2O pump is a stock 7MGTE, remanufactured one from Toyota and purchased seven weeks ago. Unfortunately, the only data I have is the ambient temps and the Auto meter H2O temps (pulled off the bottom tank). Air temp was 72 and the bottom tank temp, 220. I like your reasoning on...

    Race Ready 7M

Thanks, Crisp. I'm planning to get back out on the track in August, to see what happens with the coolant and oil temps. At this time my plan is to connect the 1 Gal surge tank and the 16Lbs radiator cap, to increase the boil point and the cooling capacity. I figure, one step at a time. If...

Thanks, IJ. Where is the oil returned to in this setup you're recommending? Oh DAH I see that it is returned to the remote adaptor...

Hi IJ, For reference, this is the current set-up: Is that set-up considered by-passed?

The following post is excerpted from "Road Racing w/o a Thermostat" on SM. Here is the background on the other problem the car experienced: In order for my car to dominate the race, I need every ounce of torque, so I run it between 3500 to 6500RPM. During a twenty minute period I begin to see...

Road racing on the track w/o a thermostat

The car is fitted with a long, RX-7 oil cooler and new thermo pellet. The cooled oil is returned to the sump. Oil returning to the sump was 240 degrees (Auto Meter gauge).

Road racing on the track w/o a thermostat

I have the crash bar already cut out, but was hoping not to have to locate the oil cooler there as the car looks badly aesthetically with the Group A air guide, but I must get control over the cooling problem and all I'd need to do is relocate the oil cooler and add the guide and go back to the...

Poodles, You and "bloodasp" both say that the placement of the oil cooler is an obstruction. I agree and will consult with my buddy at VIP Performance to get suggestions for alternative placement or different oil cooler.

There is just so much to digest here! I even started reading more about this subject online. Whew! What can I say... Start messing with the stock set-up and here I am, lost in too much information. I also got confused reading this...

    Anti roll bar stiffness table

I run on track with the Tanabe Sustec bars and I'm pleased with the results thus far. The car is shod with RSR Race springs 677f/400r and KYB Gr2, this set up leaves the car somewhat compliant on the street, and very predictable on the track. It was just fun, exciting and fatiguing after 1.5...

Road racing on the track w/o a thermostat

Yes I do have the under covers on the car... I also run a fan shroud and have a 2800 CFM fan fitted through a thermostat (190 degree) and relay. It was suggested that the car not have a fan and shroud when running on the track, as it isn't needed... Got close to 220 degrees all day long...

Road racing on the track w/o a thermostat

In order for my car to dominate the race, I need every ounce of torque, so I run it between 3500 to 6500RPM. During a twenty minute period I begin to see the coolant temp rise to near the red line, so I need to short shift to cool it off a little, but it is usually not capable of getting back...

Thanks for the offer Moy. For now I'm concentrating on getting the BIC DDP recirculated and the coolant surge tank hooked up and working properly. Next will be a CT 26 rebuild. It's now burning some oil... :( With regard to running the car w/o a thermostat on the track; Does that help engine...
