Failure14 - Make sure that you have installed the flexible drain line with the angled fitting on the turbo. I have seen this drain line installed with the angled fitting on the block and it causes a severe kink in the flexible line. This will cause the oil drain to be restricted from the turbo...
I have to agree. I purchased my salvage titled '89T from a local junkyard when I came across it while looking for parts for an '81 RX7 that I had at the time. I had always wanted a turbo Supra and this one had a mint interior, slight body damage, a slightly misligned RL wheel and a running...
I had a similar situation when in a tight turn on my '89T. The steering would make a "popping" sound and I could feel the pulsation in the wheel. I found that both lower front ball joints had at least 1/8" of vertical movement alowing me to lift the spindle / rotor assembly up an down off of the...
Just to make sure: Always bleed your braking system from the farthest point from the master cylinder reservoir to the closest (on the MkIII it is this order: Rear Right, Rear Left, Front Right, Front Left caliper). Also any time the master cylinder reservoir becomes empty you MUST bleed the...
This might be a stupid question, but did you condition your fuel before you stored it? I have had gas go bad in a few months of sitting in a tank. As far as the plug wire boots coming off, I have had this happen to my 89T very often. Now I push the entire boot into the spark plug well instead of...
I had a similar problem with the intermittent starting / not starting with my 89T. I could drive for days then out of nowhere it would crank all day, but nbot start. Finally I just started checking all of the connections in the igniton system and found that if I moved the wires to the CPS a...
Recently began having problems with my '89 T. Here is what is happening;
Very distinct spark miss at idle when warm
Loss of coolant through overflow (1 gallon / wk)
I am concerned that this may be a problem with the head gasket, but I do not have any oil in the coolant and it seems to run...
I had a similar problem. Car would cut out pretty violently @ 10 -12 psi (stock CT 26), then would run normally (check engine light would stay on briefly). My problem was a bad knock sensor. Replaced the sensor and it has been fine.
Outstanding example of the original Supra. I loved those cars back in the day and unfortunately do not get to see many in this condition. I really love the simplicity of this build. This car is the poster child for less is more!
I had the same problem with my '89T. The noise sounded like a cam follower or valvetrain noise. The car ran fine aside from the faint tapping noise so I was not that concerned (I have had a couple of V8 engines that had let a rod bearing go and the noise from the 7MGTE was no where near as bad)...
It was my driver when I was in school (I was also quite broke then), then I moved to Georgia for 5 years and spent most of my spare time working on my '65 Ford Falcon convertible). The Supra was wrecked twice in the meantime (the first wreck's insurance check paid for the car...hehehe), so I...
Wasn't aware of any more beloved Supra owners in the area!
Where are you located at? What color is your '89?
Not to break the thread...I am just south of downtown near U of I.....My Supra is '06 GM Imperial Blue (since last summer). I have posted pics of it partially reassembled from '06 in...
Hello all!!
I live on the southside of Indianapolis and I have had my Supra for close to ten years. I bought it from a junkyard (Brickyard Imports in Brooklyn, IN) after stumbling across it while looking for parts for my RX-7. It was love at first sight and I could not let that car get...
Slow,
I live in the Indianapolis Area and I have had my '89T (stock) for 10 years (I bought the car with a Salvage Tiltle from Brickyard Imports in Brooklyn, IN). I rebuilt the engine when I got it and have never had any head gasket problems (then again I am running the stock CT26). I love...
