bro, the guys are right, you lose it all. reformatting the harddrive is Extremely drastic.
It'll probably take more than a day to get it all loaded, and back where ya had it.

oh yeah. theres so many ways to hook up. IMO the only bad setup is the one that'll catch fire and toast your supe.
