Like poodles said find a jza70 it will bolt up to a 89plus with no mods needed or pre 89 with different brackets and mounts.

The m1 plug is behind the glovebox by the ecu. The m1 pin 6 is Brown. I had the jza70 it was a simple brown goes with brown. When I did my 2j swap my gauge did the same as yours till I grounded my cluster.

if its a 1j starter they will just die........the 7m starter will give you plenty of warning click click start, but the 1j won't give you any. bench test tbe starter. Is it a original 1j or a 7m starter?
