    Factory ECU programming

Steve, (I'm assuming your name is Steve) it's all good. I work on electronics for the Navy so I am pretty far removed from the automotive world! It is really unfortunate that Toyota doesn't allow people to compensate for different tire sizes though, especially on a truck! Does that mean that in...

    Factory ECU programming

I had no idea they went that far into it. I wonder how many people they had double checking the code to make sure it was right! My father was an electrical engineer at SGS-Thompson (now ST) and he used to tell me all about drawing up the chips and how they etched the silicon to make the various...

    Factory ECU programming

You work for Toyota? Awesome! That being said, with the newer ones (2005 Tundra for example), does Toyota have software that lets you 'tune' the engine or transmission, or is it more of a reflash-only sort of deal where you only can choose from a specific list of maps? I suppose I could just...

    Factory ECU programming

That's what I thought but I wasn't 100% sure. So what you're saying is the older pre-OBD ECU's were programmed with some sort of gang EEPROM programmer then soldered in afterwards. Are the new OBD-II ECU's programmed via the OBD-II port or is there some specialty port on the board reserved for that?

    Factory ECU programming

I just had a little question. How are factory ECU's programmed? Like pre-OBD and now? I was just thinking that for the most part, ECUs are made by a third party manufacturer (Denso, Bosch, Delco) and arrive at the factory already assembled. Are they programmed beforehand by the ECU manufacturer...

adding cruise control, switching to digital dash

Yes that would be me. I am not out to make money. I just want to see it go to a good home and especially go to a member who will be active in the community. We need more active people.

    The LHD Digidash Bible

Yeah, that seems to be really convenient. My 05 Tundra is a bit more of a pain in the ass since Toyota has a habit of locking down their ECUs. I have larger tires on my truck as well and I guess I just have to deal with it. Most people install some speedo corrector in the wiring but I hate the...

adding cruise control, switching to digital dash

Grant, that would be me. :biglaugh: Smashey, I bet you could rewire the switches to work with the stock steering wheel ones. The stock wheel switches work off changing resistance (less wire to run) but I think (again, don't quote me on this) the universal cruise setup has dedicated wires for...

adding cruise control, switching to digital dash

Oh okay. Damn. If you were in Grand Prairie, Texas, I would be able to help you out with this. As far as the cruise goes, it goes to the ECU, TEMS, and cruise. The signal is generated in the gauge cluster itself. The TSRM will be more specific but I know it goes to at least those three. The...

adding cruise control, switching to digital dash

Smashey, I have some info for you. Unfortunately, no, the digital dash isn't just plug and play. The connectors for the dash are completely different, apart from the clock. Now you CAN add the correct connectors to your analog dash harness so that it plugs in. The other issue you will run into...

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

Drogon, I'm moving down to grand prairie in less than 2 months. I'm sure we can find something that's going on down there.

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

That would be what I would think. With the lag of the wideband, you don't want it sending the wrong signals and blowing your engine under high boost.

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

MarkIII4Me, you can disable it above a certain amount of boost if you want. That is how I have mine set. It has feedback below 6 psi and then it runs strictly off the table above that to 22 psi. It talks about it in the manual if you want to download it from AEM.

Well, I will spread the word. I am hoping at least my brother and I will be able to bring our cars.

    The LHD Digidash Bible

Grant, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the speedometer is driven from the ECU over a bus-type system. Programming the ecu via the OBD-2 port would make that pretty convenient. I need to do that with my larger tires on my Tundra actually! I've just been lazy. Pi, I am actually trying to...

    Guv'na's Tavern

Well, set something up and I'll try to be there. With the Centralia meet happening on the 10th, I most likely won't be able to go because my wife's birthday festivities are that weekend. The weekend after would be awesome though. Plus it is close enough to my little brother that he might be able...

    The LHD Digidash Bible

I thought about using the ABS wheel sensors but how many teeth are on the wheel? I would love to make a custom sensor that just screwed onto the transmission where the speedo cable normally goes. I really don't see a good reason why the cable goes all the way up behind the dash when you could...

    The LHD Digidash Bible

Small update. I did some experimenting and figured out that in order to give the correct pulse count for MPH, each rotation of the wheel has to put out 10 pulses. It seems like if would be pretty easy to glue 10 small magnets on an axle and then position a small hall effect sensor next to them...
