I'm going through some boxes of parts to sell and found this relic. Figured I'd post some pictures here for posterity and because I'll probably never see another one again. I went with a one-piece downpipe from the CT-26 but every now and then I think about swapping this back in.

Some fasteners are torque-to-yield, or locking by distorting the threads. These are just plain old bolts, so you're good to reuse them if they come off easy and you don't see any visible signs of stretching or necking.
Time to tear into it. There was some discussion of the crank being surface-...
Since the rod bolts press in, they stand a chance of deforming the conrods. Hence the ARP instructions to resize once they're in.
A thou is actually pretty significant when talking about bearing clearance. Here's the factory spec, so you're basically shooting for 1-2 thou clearance to match the...
I was happy to find a complete engine, ECU, etc. so the swap would be straightforward. Much nicer to keep everything lined up with the service manuals and not use workarounds.
There isn't much to be done for the GE to make power. As far as parts, almost everything can be swapped between the...
I don't know if it's necessarily true that using ARP for main caps will change clearances. Their rod bolt kit instructions do say that connecting rods should be re-sized after installation since those are press-fit, but the main caps just drop right over the ARP studs.
The GE was still in...
I reused my main bolts and connecting rod bolts with absolutely no issue, following the TSRM instructions for a rebuild on my GE back in...08-09? Put about 40k on it before I pulled it for a GTE swap. Now I need to find the GE a new home since it's just sitting in the corner of the shop taking...
Hey guys,
Time I start looking around here again. The time is fast approaching for me to swap engines, especially if I can find one on the BST here :) I've basically put the Mk3 in cold storage since getting an IS250 and I really miss the rattles and shakes that a 25 year old car has. Grown...
Finished "The Making of the Atomic Bomb" by Richard Rhodes, halfway through "Dark Sun - The Making of the Hydrogen Bomb", same author.
Both excellent books, I'd highly recommend them!
Strange, I've been using 3/8 fuel hose since 2006 with no ill effects, Still as soft as when I installed it, I went ahead and used the little wire clamps because I still had the full set and they fit with no hassle.
I've got some orange CRC brake quiet in a bottle, but I thought that was to adhere the pads to the steel backing plates. Can I put a coating on the back and just let it cure before installation if I don't have the plates? I might have to look for that Permatex, thanks for the tip!
Getting ready to change brake pads and rotors since I've got the front hubs apart for the wheel bearings and had a quick question:
I've had Brembo rotors on the past few years with Porterfield R4-S pads and they've always squealed under light pressure at lower speeds (never been bothersome...
After all this time, I'm thinking of buying another car. The mk3 has almost 223k miles, my 89 F150 has around 150k, and I'm wondering what it'd be like to drive something made in this millenium!
I remember seeing Rodel's thread of his GS300 (damn!), and it made me look at those cars in a...
I like that last part you said. Could you clarify? The way I'm looking at the diagram I'll need to pop off the bearing cap in the rear, remove the nut from the rear and then use a slide hammer to pull the spindle out?
For passenger or both?
Found the bearing and seal on RockAuto, if I get the parts to do both sides it's running at $78. Then $3 apiece to replace the axle hub lock nut (the part the TSRM lists as non-reusable).
Got off the phone with the stealership just now to try and get a price, they said...
Hey guys,
Just got back from trying to get the car aligned and the shop found some very slight play in the front passenger side wheel. I've already replaced (in my own garage) bushings, tie rods, shocks/springs, sway bars so I figure I'll go ahead and replace these too. The shop quoted about...
