Ok so i am doing an essay on graffiti. And i just want to know if you (Even subcaunsciously) relate graffiti (Of all kinds, beautiful or even a "Mikes a fag" tag) to hip-hop (if so, do you think about the hip hop culture, or the shit they play on radio that they now call hip hop)

Im basically including a part that says how much i hate graffiti, because i feel that when some people see graffiti, they blame it on hip hop.

I equate it to nothing more than sheer vandalism for no palpable reason. After living in London for almost all my life, Graffiti makes the city look that much more run down, depressing, delapidated and crumbling. It's everywhere. You cant escape it. It's been around far longer than hip-hop has.

Graffiti is an art form, but it becomes illegal when they do not have the owners permission. I have seen beautiful commissioned artwork on the sides of stores and housing.

Quick tags and bombs need to go, artwork needs to stay. IIRC I might have some Graffiti pictures I took in NYC. If you want to use them, I will try to locate them and send them your way.

Depends on the application. Some of it is art, an expression made available for public viewing at no charge. What if Picasso had chosen brick buildings instead of canvas?

And then the flip side is not art. Tagging for the fun, to defile something. Black is the color of choice. Done in a way similar to a cat pissing on something. "This is mine." I can not agree with that.

Then there's Marc Ecko. He's in a leauge of his own. :D

it truly depends on the application, message and talent used. i boise, we have freak ally. all the walls in the ally are covered and done beautifully. once in a while, the artists will paint it all white again and start over.

tagging is vandalism. as is graffiti where no one wants it.

graffiti is different than tagging...

and it's much like a weed... a weed is simple any plant that's not where you want it to be...

There are quite a few sections of the berlin wall that where saved because ouf the artwork on them as well...
