You know what really sucks about AEM EMS?

if ur not lookin for anything over 450rwhp, id look into an eManage ultimate. with harness its about $650. it controls fuel and ignition and converts to a map sensor set up. my friend is turbo-ing his 4 banger camry (ha!) and thats what he's using and its relatively easy to set up and offers great flexibility. just a thought.

i dont doub it one bit that an emangae can handle 800 hp. in my opinion the damn thing is just as good as a standalone (maybe not as good in some aspects) and costs alot less. you can convert airflow meter to a map sensor and change out injectors with whatever you want, it even has 6 seperate injector channels if you want to program it as sequential fuel injection. read up on it. i dont know everything about it. (my friend has actual unit) fairly easy to install and tune if my 17 yr old friend can do it in about a day from figuring out wires to starting the engine and running it.

If you haven’t bought the AEM yet PM me, after reading this and malloynx's thread im pretty sure im going to use the maft pro since I don't plan on going over 400 hp for a while (money issues) and could use the extra cash.

Its basically been sitting in my closet for the last 3 months and still has the white sticker over connectors so its never been used. I'll give you good deal.

i have heard good things with emanage. I wanted all the flexibility of total control with the aem. Some aspects of the emanage could the smoother since it is a piggy back which will also makes somethings easier. With aem you control every aspect of the engine so if you input an error or if you dont understand something the ecu will do exactly as it is programmed. Even if that blows it up. Of course you can blow up any engine with probably any fuel/timing control device.

Will emanage control the boost level or do you need a boost controler?

I also have one (for now) aem serial gauge. It will display any output that the aem has. It is fully programable as to what is displayed. Now it is on default setting to show a/f, throttle position, air intake temp, coolant temp, load, and speed. I will also be adding a FP output to this and i have a EGT to set up too. I will be getting atleast one more serial gage to daisy chain to this one. ( you can chain up i think 8 or 10 gauges). The gauge cost $275 i think but since it can show anything that the aem has for an output its a great deal.

The aem with serial gauge, fp sensor, egt sensor, boost selinoid, ait, aem UEGO, and map is what about $2700 or so i forgot.(on purpose) The fuel preasure sensor is $200 and you dont really need it. The egt is about $175 i think. so if you remove those your at about $2325 or so.

Emanage is what $700, BC $400, egt gage, ait gage, fp gauge are what $700 to $900 and you havent got to coolant or any other output that can be done. thats a total of about $2000 and you dont have all the control of aem yet. and these inputs of egt or fp or ait may not even be used for tuning by emanage.

It is eye opening how many more choices we have for our cars that have come up in the last three years. Just 5 years ago GCC, FGC or whatever that stuff is was about $700 or more and so much more limited.

I figure with the aem i only have to buy this stuff once even if new and better things come out it wont control more than the aem.

Now if my dam new turbo would finally arrive i can run all this cash thru something better than a 16 year old stock CT-26.

I think it should. Changing the injection pulse width is better than trimming the air flow signal in my opinion.

BC $400, egt gage, ait gage, fp gauge are what $700 to $900
I think you easily do much better than those prices...

yea Nick M that is a little high. egt, ait, fp gauges are about $500 if you use quality gauges like greddy etc. A boost controller will be from $300 to $500. If you can go aem ecu you probably dont buy auto meter gauges or use a manual boost controller. But an aem ecu is about 25% higher than another piggyback and a few gauges. that makes it worth it.

Oh hell no. You still can't do crap about all of the other enrichments the stock ecu wants to add with your giant injectors. The car would run like crap.

Emanage is a decent piggyback but it has been outdated by the MAFTPro.

Anything over ~600 rwhp, a piggyback isn't going to cut it. Don't bother chiming in with "but my gay lover's other boyfriend has a 1,000,000 hp Supra with just a VPC and AFC" because that isn't what I'm saying. People use it but, it is just never going to be right.

Ian, "MAP switching" with the AEM EMS is done via laptop. There is enough flexibility in a single calibration to make it plenty for most cars. Maybe a race gas cal and a pump gas cal if you feel the need.

Thinking about doing a break in with the maft pro, seeing what kind of power I can squeeze out and then after the motor/tranny/clutch has been broken in, selling the maft pro and going with an AEM to the get the full potential of the motor... Im thinking, all the extra gauges and sensors I need for a maft pro can be easily transfered to AEM... Ive been told a few times that it's best to break the motor in on the stock ECU, for safety reasons... *AKA: If you dont get the right map for your motor, your motor is just going to do what the AEM tells it, no matter what, there's no safety net* Also, I would like to see how much I can get from a maft pro... Nothing is written in stone, yet... Maft pro has the timing monitoring, which is good to find when your getting knock, but it will be better when the timing control is in effect...

Opinions?

Well, Ian, like I said, nothing is written in stone... I have about a month or so before I need to make the final decision...

I'm still trying to catch up on all this engine management stuff...you see, for honda's, we use civic's ecu, chip them, run uberdata(you can control igntion timing, fuel, injectors, etc) and it all cost under 200 bucks(plus WB if you don't have one). The problem I'm having is figuring out what's needed to tune a supra with upmost reliability and tunability...

Clueless, it depends what your power goals are... Its the demon Im wrestling with now...

If I plan to do everything right with extreme care and what have you....500-750 seems reasonable(supra won't be a DD)...
