As with anything i never buy the shinest thing on the shelf when it first comes out. Had i done that with my computer, i'd have ended up with sub par stuff. In the midrange as far as parts go, you're fairly safe - like i was with a GeForce 7600GT, but when you go high end, like i just did, it gets a lot more complicated. I was looking at getting a Radeon X1950GT, but because i did some reading and waited, i ended up with a Radeon X1950Pro, essentially the same, but cooler running, a little bit faster, and £30 cheaper.
You're like the sort of person that goes out and buys the GeForce 7800GT on release and it all impressed, but mega pissed when 9 months later, the 7900GT replaces it.
