you know, back in the day when i posted up about a steel 1 piece, people didnt seem to be as interested.... weird.

anyways, id do it, except i have a shop right near me that can driveshaft fabrication or alteration. i was going to take in my stock DS to see if they can just cut the ends off and put it on a steel tube and balance it up to 200mph.

they were cautioning me about convering a 2 piece to a 1 piece and how it would be more likely to "jump rope" and be unstable. i told them that my overall driveshaft length is SHORTER than the intermediate shafts on the truck units they work on...

i have heard about this before.

if they tune the drive shaft right it should NOT have harmonic resonance in any of the rpm that it rotates at. Aluminum is actually more prone to that than steel DS.

as for rotational mass. at the size of the drive shaft. Aluminum, carbon or even steel. It is not going to make that much difference.

You guys should check with 4x4 shops, they often make/repair driveshafts, usually fairly cheaply, if you don't want them out of aluminum or some such. They usually just take your end yokes & retube them, then balance. I know of a shop in Kingsport that priced one for my Jeep, with a slip yoke, for ~120-150, using my end yokes. Once this semester is over (~3 wks), I'll go up & check for pricing on a Supra.

so maybe this is a stupid question but you guys don't seem to flame for those :) I've learned a bunch since sf's been down

anyway, what's the benifit of a 1 peice? obviously loosing 15 pounds is a huge benifit, but anything else?

15 lbs free is different than 15lbs rotating.
by simply getting rid of 15lbs of reciprocating mass, you're creating a fairly large power-to-the-ground increase, resulting in better overall power efficiency.

at that price, i'm in too. see if they'll work out a deal for us, and also, ask what they balance the shafts to. i want mine to be balanced to at least 200mph

How will you get the two pieces to match up precisely so it rotates perfectly as one solid made piece would?

They take measurements of your shaft, then subtract the Yokes and put a pipe the size of the shafts minus the Yokes.

Remember that old thread where me and Syst went at it?

I love my once piece AL driveshaft ( from supra sport)...it made a HUGE difference in power to the ground!

Litterally...i bark from a dead stop....and i dont even engauge the clutch hard!

And the SMOOTHNESS of the power is obviously there as well!....I have the Fidanza flywheel, RPS stg. 3 clutch and 1 pc. AL shaft....

All i have to say is get one! There is nothing to lose, and if anyone here starts talking BS about the AL ones shattering or some crap.....just dont start....research this topic via GOOGLE.COM first and then come back later :wavey:

POINT: One piece shafts work, they greatly increase torque and power to the ground, and also take strain off your drive line.

huh??

i bark the tires in my supra all the time and it is far from the drive shaft since mine is still OEM 2 piece :p

what IS causing the barking of the tires is the 6 puck + 3200 lbs pressure plate. ;) As for AL shattering. Not at the levels of power we are producing. Perhaps in stupid HIGH HP apps perhaps.
