nothing to do with beauty, fake wheels aren't engineered to the same degree (if at all) as good brand name wheels. aside from the fact they rip off the design, depending on the brand, they can be seriously dangerous when they fail.

but i forgot, this is the mkiii crowd.

I have little sympathy for the Supra owner who buys cheap parts then suffers the consequences of said cheap parts failing... too many owners just put whatever on their car with the goal of getting it running again asap. To hell with safety, reliability, appearance, etc. If you can't afford the right parts, sell the car to someone who can and get a Corolla. Sorry for my mini-rant. I just wish more people would realize what a badass car the Supra is and take better care of/ more pride in their car. I can't stand to drive mine when it's DIRTY, forget about it if it's not running @ 100% and only quality parts even if I have to save for a little while to make the purchase.

Bottom line: peel for the good wheels!!:)

Easy man. I'm not trying to incite a flame-war here or say that YOUR car is a pos. I was only remarking on Enraged's comment about the mk3 crowd. Taken in the context of what he was saying about the knock off rims, it seemed he was implying that, for the most part, the mk3 crowd is cheap when it comes to what they buy for/do to their cars. I know more people than I would like to admit that fit into this crowd. Also, I'm not saying the XXR's are junk, just that in all things automotive, you get what you pay for has been my experience. The most important thing is to educate yourself and research the product you have in your sights before buying, which it sounds like you have. Major kudos to you for that. You are ahead of the majority of Supra owners out there.

Alright then i will retract my statment towards that subjuct. I just dont like seeing those kinda comments to often simply for the fact that everyone gets into this hobby with a certain car because they love them. I know that people skimp on certain parts and yeah I agree with you on that, that they shouldn't, but hey when its all said and done thats up to them if they want to use that part. Also I do understand the mk3 crowd being cheapos lol and thats simply because alot of this stuff isnt cheap trust me i would love to have all name brand and top of the line crap, but I just dont have the money to do that. So I skimp where I know i can and dont skimp where i know I shouldn't. When its all said and done I just think as long as your happy with your ride then thats what matters imo.

Roger that. Again, sorry for the rant. Just getting sick of the people that ask me for advice about their cars problems, disregard said advice, then call me to help fix the problem a second time + the new problems caused by the failure of the cheap part. I saw the opportunity to vent and took it. GL with the wheel situation:)

Guys, just quit talkin' shit.... sometimes you have to decide on all the things you have to do, all at one time. So, if U have an opinion about why I did not send $3K on wheels, I don't wanna hear it. Do better than I did, and if not, ki$$ my @$$. If U did better (all at one time), then props to U and YOUR disposable income!

Look at my build thread and tell me your @$$ did the same, everyone else (KMA).

Back on topic...I haven't seen an XXR fail catastrophically without major abuse (curbs, mostly). If they look the way you want them to, go for it, I say. I know a handful of cars around here that have had them for a few years without problems.

That said, they just don't make enough sizes for my application, so I have to go with a different brand.

I think I also focus more my engine and refuse to cut corners in that area. Or in general anything that would cause reduced safety. I'm all about clean looking, safe Supra, the speed is just a bi-product.

In terms of my wheels however, I'm not trying to go too expensive because I frankly don't have it in my budget for an expense set of works. They look great and are awesome, but unless you come from old money this hobby can get expensive quick. lol

I think once I finish my build on my '89 which will be my new daily I'm going to give it hand me downs from my '90 to include my Enkei J10s (which have been great for a simple cruiser)

Then on the 1JZ I was think about throwing on a set of Tenzo, TSW, or Motegi wheels. I was thinking my along the lines of some 18x8 Motegi. I saw the MR056
on a black Supra previously and just loved them. I can't remember whose car it was though, but the thing was clean as hell.

Anyone have any input on these? I'm looking for wheel/tire packages in the 900-1100 price range. Thanks in advance.

Wasn't rantin' anyone specific. Just really disappointed that the debate is still going with the "you get what you pay for," theme, but no one's posted any data that gives a wheel-for-wheel comparison which supports that claim. Equivalent to "I paid "six figures" for my wheels, so they are safer. REALLY! ...Just look at my receipt!"

The only failed wheel shown, is made by a very well-known name in the wheel business (and there are no specifics to why it really failed or what was being done, which caused the damage).

I guess I'd prefer that some people not make global statements about us being cheap (especially when they can't provide real data to support their claims) . Maybe until that proof is provided, we can agree to use the word "practical," instead of "cheap," when referring to MKIII owners who buy inexpensive wheels.... Is that too much to ask?

18" XXR 502's in gunmetal here.
A little over a year now, no problems. Reading the earlier posts on the 502's, now
I'm afraid to carry a screwdriver near them, for fear of dropping it on the lip. : )

^^Yep... they even easily get dented from routine road debris, but the dings aren't too deep.

Touche. My "data" isn't something that could be considered hard evidence, more an observation really. Just seems that the people who have the nicer mk3's also have a significant financial investment in their cars. Practical it is:)

What do you guys think about Diamond racing? It's a custom made wheel for under the price of most production models, and available in any size from 13-24.5" in diameter, and 4-48" in width, with any offset. The only downside i can see is weight, because they're basically just pretty, oversized steelies. I've seen them on some Fairlady's, and a few VW's. I don't think they look half bad...

Word.

These rims aren't just gonna break from aggresive driving.

The casting is weaker than forged. SO, obviously they will break/crack if you hit something.
