i have a complete new motor with less than 10k on the block and less the 4k on the head. new gaskets and everything... my car has not been driven since last oct. right before winter.

i had a bad intake mani leak; i fix that problem 2 days ago. the car runs fine but here is my problem...

the car smokes... if i let it idle for 10sec or more, the car starts to smoke from the exhaust... it smokes pretty bad... i don't know WTF is wrong... only thing i can think of is the turbo. the turbo has less then 20k miles. i have the HKS sport turbo. i know its not bhg... it smells like oil
the smell is grey...

please input... what else can it be????

turbo then, how bad does it smoke? Does it get worse when you hold the gas at a higher RPM?

Im thinking the same thing. It smokes on startup right? Does it also smoke on decel after boosting? If so, then Im thinking the turbo seals.

Didnt they discontinue that HKS sport turbo? It might have minimal miles on it but if its been sitting for a while, the seals might be old and brittle.

is smokes pretty bad... if you let it idle for more than 10 sec, you can see the smoke in the rear view mirror. right when you start it up, you don't see smoke until 10 or so sec later. this is an old turbo... i am the third owner. i my cousin was the original owner, so i know where its been. i'm thinking turbo too. someone else said it might be my PVC system. how do i check this??? i don't see any oil in the muffler.

if the turbo is bad, wouldn't it smoke all the time???

PCV system is easy to check. There is a pipe connected to both the valve covers - pull that and see if you are getting a lot of oily vapour spewing out of there when it runs. If so, that vapour is sucked back into the engine and burnt.

This normally only happens on tired bottom ends, though.

are you referring to the two nipple on top of the valve cover thats goes to the catch can??? if so, i routed them to the catch can.

Hey man, has it smoked since you got the rebuild done? I'm thinking it could be the oil rings(not piston rings)...

My motor is toast too. If anything, it looks like a couple snapped rings for me - Maybe what, 2000 miles on it? haha

I'll be down that way checking out some windsor real estate within the next couple months, so I'll give you a call when I'm down there

don't tell me that... the motor runs strong and idles perfect... if just smokes.

remember when i was there last year for the meet... my car did not smoke like that. new block and new head; i hope its something small.

can't i run the for 1yr without problems... DAMN... finally got it running good and now it smokes.

Well, I can't see your PCV being hooked up wrong...Hell, try just running open PCV and if it still does it...problem eliminated
If the turbo's good and the valve stem seals are new, compression is good...Like I said, I think oil rings - Drive/turn on the car for a bit, turn it off...see if there's pools of oil in the cylinders - should give you something to start with

are you sure oil isnt leaking down into your spark plug valley and somehow getting into your cylinders or burning off on your exhaust mani?

edit it appears according to his pics on cardomain his catch can is recirculated.

yes recirculated... you know that might be it... oil in the spark plug valley.
i'd change the gaskets and everything. i did however notice oil in the valley.

I come from a land down under
The valley could be full to the top of the cam boxes and it wouldn't get into the cylinders......

If the plugs were loose enough to allow this you'd hear it while it was running as it would "whistle".

Have you changed anything in your setup recently?

If not it might just be a bit of wear and increased blowby.
(Have you drained the Catch Can?)
