OK, so here's how it went down. I had to move my car in the middle of the night into my driveway, and it was really damn cold out. I'm guessing it was around 15 degree's if that, and there was a little snow and a little ice. I tried to get my door open, and it was frozen shut, and since my door handle was broken on that side, I didn't want to break it. I went to the passenger side and decided to try that one. With a bit of force I got it to budge open... it didn't swing open or anything so thats not how this happened. I then slowly started to open the door and I stopped when I notice it getting stuck. I looked at the right side of the door and some how the door and the fender were making contact... enough contact to bend the fender in a little bit... but I barely used any force so I really don't know how this happened. Needless to say, my passenger door will not open with out hitting the fender... anyone have any ideas how this happened? Here is the pic: ( Click for bigger image, I was going to have more and a video of it contacting the fender, but my camera died. I will be in autobody class soon so it won't be hard to fix, but still how did this happen!? )

when i got my 87 it happened to me, then my bro thought it would be ok to just open the door and put a huge dent in the fender. i fixed it though. i took the fender off, fixed the dent and repositioned the fender so the door wouldnt touch it when it opened, havent had a problem since. it still gets close though. not hard at all to reposition the fender. gl hope you solve this.

The end of the trim piece is loose, and it caught the fender. I had the same problem on my drivers door. Think the rust from the steel backer bowed it out, and the stock bolt that holds it in place is no longer attached.

I had the same thing. If the moulding sticks our from some ice or a little rust over time, it has enough resistance to bend the fender in 1/8 or so, at which time the door makes contact and finishes the job. It can be bent out easily if you haven't damaged the paint. Requires the fender liner and to come out and you can press it back by hand.

replace the moulding too or it will happen again!
