small pinhole leak = loss of pressure lowering boiling point and causing a runaway overheat

I had a dent in my upper radiator inlet, and the hose clamp sat right over it, cause the system to lose pressure enough to overheat...

it's the little shit that drives yah nuts LOL

Anyway, after my short tenure on here... and over a dozen years with this current supra, I've come to realize I only know ONE THING about these cars... they are a virtual cornucopia of ills, thrills, and celestial delights... laid out as a geographical tapestry of mechanical architect, catacombed with system upon subsystem of automotive integral entrail... an experience wraught with the landscape of twists, turns, mountains and valleys... a flavorful palate of sweetness and bitter bite, emotions deeper than soul rush and synaptic as the brain fire of invention... heart throb and blow job...... One moment a modus de farce, vehicular assault straight through your auto-erotic-heart like an arrow shot from Gods Angels own crossbow... and then just around the next bend, the vertigo of a spiraling descent into the devils own abyss...

I stripped my coolant system out. Ran pressure water through the radiator with no resistance. Ran water through the block where the water pump would pump the water into and it come out of the thermostat port freely with no resistance. I looked at the water pump and saw this.. It still spins freely though. Im not sure if thats would stop a flow though..I am sure I do not have a BHG but some sort of clog might be still somewhere in the engine block.

Hey Dat! I just did one of those TOO!

^^^ I HIGHLY recommend the "stud/nut" combo if you can come up with parts...:biglaugh:

PS!!! I have been trying to get my cooling system "equalized" for a LOONG time... TOO long, but NO cooling ISSUES. WTH??? Well, the CAP on the reservoir was ALWAYS POPPING OFF... but not causing "overflowing" or "over-filling". ???? ...then I began to notice the top coolant HOSE would often be SUCKED IN when it COOLED! I got to thinking about it... why it would "pressurize" and then "DEPRESSURIZE"... and then it HIT ME:icon_surp ...maybe the OUTLET/DRAIN hose was "CLOGGED"???

I pulled the HOSE and blew through it... PHEWWWWWWWWT....

NO clogging... hmmmm... then I looked at the CAP carefully...

VIOLA! Some CRUD in the CAP ORIFICE was keeping it from "breathing" properly!

Anyway... just another chocolate in my box of supra goodies that I didn't know I was gonna get when I popped the lid today...;)

G/L with the pump job! I've had issues with REMAN water pumps before... I'd stay with the AISIN units from Toyota.

Dats: What condition is the block in if you look in through the pump hole?

It is just a little rush and dirty. I am going to sand it off before I install the new pump in. Makes me sad how the last owner and the shop who did the install did not check little things like this.

I had a similar problem on an old Escort 1.4 - the pump physically worked, but because of the centre spindle wobbling all the time, it enlarged the hole just enough to let all the water piss out of it all the time.

IJ - would you say clean that up with wire wool and lots of elbow grease?

Think of the cooling system in a 7M as the big bully in the showers at school with a rolled up wet towel that's going to snap you in the nads if you're not paying attention...
