According to the TSRM, they have to be heated. Mine came right out, with a little tapping, no heating involved. No apparent damage was done either. But keep in mind, I was not reusing the pistons, or pins, so keeping them in perfect condition wasn't a necessity when I decided to do it the easy way.
its really not necessary! they arent in there that tight....i used a small press at work after i poured oil over the pins....worked great and didnt mark up the piston.
