i don't care who you are as long as your user name is on their active directory and on their mail server they have access to your computer REGARDLESS

if you have some way of getting access to an OUTSIDE email source that doesn't use outlook you could probably get away from him not reading the private stuff. believe me it goes on almost everywhere this guy just seems to have the balls to tell it to your face which i would probably talk to your boss about cause thats not right there has to be a code of conduct that he has to follow.

no security cert no encryption of any kind can't be hacked i bet you bucks he does it for enjoyment he's probably one of those god complex IT guys who tout their shit and if something that is completely out of his control happens he flips a tit and you are now his worst enemy. tread carefully with this one.

i know assholes who use remote desktop software if they can't get around security obsticles just to view what you're doin.

I'll reply because I feel this comment was towards me.

Regardless of access to the computer and/or mail server if the email is encrypted with a secure certificate you'd have to have the certificate to decode the email. Keeping it on a flash drive comes to mind. You guys obviously learned everything you know about hacking from the movie Swordfish. It's extremely difficult to hack a 128bit cert. Impossible? No. Worth anyones time to read an email? No.

The remote desktop thing obviously would negate any form of encryption since they can see what you're seeing.

Mario, don't try to school me on computers please. I beg you, stick to the politics, cars, and everything else you're obviously qualified to hand out advice for.

Come on guys!!! I was simply asking advise. I know nothing is 100% but I was just asking for a more difficult way to e-mail my wife that she could uncode but if you don’t have the pass word all you will see is a series of numbers and or letters. Our e-mails are the only ones I want no one to see. All others I could care less. If they figure it out or block me from that site I’ll find another.

Now, if I get a i-Pod touch with internet capabilities, if I get on the internet here with my personal device can they still track what I’m doing being I’ll be using their internet connection?

B@WAAHAAAHAH, are you fucking kidding dude? HE HAS ACCESS TO HIS PC! You have got to be joking, encryption MEANS SHIT WHEN HE HAS ACCESS! I never said it was so easy to break a cert without the key, but the fact is HE IS ON THE DOMAIN. So please CRAM IT!

Wanna get schooled, I've been doing this since I was 12...You thinking security on a domain that this IT guy has complete control and access over is fucking laughable. Any PC that is on my domain, I don't care if he has a cert somewhere on some USB stick, he will use it eventually and then I win. If this guy has enough time on his hands, then it will just take him a day or two to get it.

You seem a bit green behind the ears on security....

Next time you wanna bash someone, o wise 21 year old who has soooo much experience in the field....learn a tad bit more on how everything works in the background. It isn't all black and white.

89 is at the mercy of this guy plain and simple.

Sorry 89, just mike there got my panties in a bunch....

Anyways, I'm betting w/e hardware firewall this guy has running has a nice extensive list of blocked proxies. Next best thing to try is making your own. Here is an article I googled in like 2 mins, read it when you are home. It shouldn't take to much to figure out. It might work, it is worth a try though so: Here is the link.

Thanks SupraMario but the link is denied here so I'll read up on it at home.

Figured it would be, it should be pretty straight forward. I'll think of other options to get around his spying on you.

I just wish i could figure out how to stop my supervisor from reading my e-mails. i was in his office and it goes stright to him and me at the same time. there has to be a way to get him off of my e-mail but i would assume i don't have access to that part of the e-mail system here. The encoding should be fun though cause i know he will ask me what it is.

Well if the home made proxy does work, start using gmail or some other form of email. I don't know why this guy is reading your personal emails, but if all else fails you should just try talking to him, hopefully this guy isn't to big of a control freak and will allow you the privacy.

The fact that you think the file is accessible once the IT guy has it in his possession is laughable. Access to the PC or not, if the file is encrypted you need to decrypt it before it becomes human readable. You pulling the "I've been doing this since I was 12" card just shows that you haven't learned much since that age.

If his wife sends him an encrypted file, using a certificate that she has and he has stored on a USB stick or similar.. it's not going to be easily readable whether the IT guy has it burned to a CD and strung around his neck or it's on a VPN somewhere in Hawaii.

Now, saying the IT guy can obtain the cert is a different story, however if that's your point I feel you need to proof read your replies more to ensure they're suiting your argument correctly..

Also, please stop the name calling.. paired with your caps lock obsession and your childish insults I'm starting to think you've only been doing this for a few years despite the "since 12" comment. Just because you control a small network of computers at your workplace doesn't give you the right to hand out professional advice. This is what I do for a living, you won't win the argument.

P.S. - Thanks for visiting my build thread!

unless i missed it no one answered my question about the i-Pod touch and using their internet connection. but i will look in to a cheap cell phone plane.

Yes using the internet on the ipod will probably be the same as using the internet on the computer. If you get an iPhone you can use the cellular data network instead of your work place's internet.

Oh and on another note, a few months ago i come in to work and open my e-mail and i have a draft e-mail that i don't remeber saving a draft from the next day. well i open it and some how a bug was planted in my e-mail because it started broadcasting from my e-mail and i got over 10,000 undeliverable messages from something trying to send out e-mails from my address. needless to say it shut down my entire companies e-mail for the whole day. The IT guy seen what happen and has no idea how it happen or at least never told me how it happen.

You're kidding right? Go re-read what I've been talking about. If he has access to his PC and I guarantee you he does, then he has access to the cert. Again telling me I know jack shit is fucking laughable. Stop trying to be some keyboard warrior in telling this guy that its all fucking peas and carrots...

As for me insulting you? I won't even go there, you felt offended when I told you, your idea of a cert is garbage. So you thought it would be awesome to try and slam me with "I don't know cars, politic, or "everything else I'm obviously qualified to had out".

BTW most IT guys who run a nice little network do it because it is easy money and you don't have a shit ton of stress to deal with every day...thinking we are some low level tech is also funny. You keep doing what you do with coding websites and playing with SQL, and the rest of us will keep the whole machine moving.

BTW, nice build thread.

well here is my take on it. dont send any personal stuff to or from work... and you will not have any more issues. if you need to continue communicating with your wife work out a letter for letter or word for word code with her and send it in plain email with no encription whatsoever he will have to know your personal code to understand it. a very low tech solution but it is foolproof, and uncrackable.

im talking about a letter shift. abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwyz
bcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyza

but realistically it is a very time consuming thing that should only be used for important stuff. all other conversations should just wait till you are not working.
