no pics....my wife had the camera, and she was out of town...

Head gasket was ovaled on cylinders 4,5, and 6 badly.... the center section of the exhaust side water jackets on the gasket was pressed up about 5/16 of an inch.... cylinders 1,2,3 were not far behind, they were just slightly less ovaled.... The fire rings were actually streched out to the point where they were getting thinner and coolant was seeping over them....

no signs of it.... pistons were beautiful after I scraped all the carbon off of them from it running sooooo rich.... wouldn't there be some kinds of marks on the pistons or something? After the carbon came off, they look just like the day I put them in.... Hell, my permant marker numbering from building the engine was still visible :p

Did you break it in on synthetic?

It may not have been bad enough to cause mechanical damage other than the sacrificial headgasket.

The Gasket won't "blow" just from an over pressure there has to be something "wrong" for it to let go either badly prepped surface (low spots) or detonation. (In my NA it was erroded head water channels above the copper seal rings)

Gixxer, I've ovaled many composite headgaskets, and never seen detonation damage. In order to hurt even stock pistons, you have to basically run 24 psi on pump gas. But to blow the gasket just takes a little bit of D-time to kill it.

yeah justin, I wanted to tell you about it....haha...

I just put the cometic I got from you in when the head was off, and used brake quiet on it this time. I also relapped my block and checked the head surface. Everything appears to be good. If this one is going to blow, oh well....I hope it holds until I get my new motor finished. I'm going all out on the new motor, with the head and block being cut and finished for an HKS style metal head gasket.

This is going to be the specs for the new engine:

block decked and head shaved
HKS Metal Head Gasket
ARP Head Studs
ARP Rod bolts
ARP Main bolts
ARP Flywheel bolts
.17 over Ross Forged Pistons
Aftermarket Rods(not sure what type yet, as I haven't ordered yet)
7M Crank, fully balanced, Nitrided and Polished
Possibly 1mm oversize valves, if funding allows
Ferrea Valve Springs and locks
Possibly Shim under bucket conversion
Possibly Comp custom ground cams

Coil on plug ignition
FFIM with larger throttle body
ACT pressure plate with HP 6 puck Bronze disk
GT3540R Turbo
The Biggest intercooler I can fit behind the front bumper
2.75 inch intercooler piping
Fidanza Flywheel
3.5 inch exhaust

I already have my block and crank prepped, and a good many of the parts either on order or in the shop. So hopefully this engine will hold out till then on CT power, then I can have the real motor in...

I guess these things happen. I just hope mine will last.
Did you prep the head surface and the deck on this last gasket. Both sides must be very smooth since the iron block and aluminum head will expand at different rates and stress the head gasket.

That rebuild lists looks appetising. I assume you will throw in a port and polish on the head. I would not know what good oversize valves are on the 7m head if you are not going to rev up the engine or have custom cams. The valve seat oversizing and install is a lot of money to spend that i wouldnt think could be fully exploited without larger cams.

Dont use such wide piston to wall clearances that Ross reccomends. I did not but i should have closed them in more so cause i do have piston rattle till i get on the highway.

Go ahead and coat the pistons while you are at it. A skirt coating would be nice at least.

I cant wait to see how that GT3540R performs.

R you going to use the same fuel management? SAFC2?

So get busy i am ready to ride.
