well finally got to the last chapter of my build, getting the engine running. i have everything hooked up. im getting fuel, all the injectors are about 2.8 ohms. im getting spark in all 6 cylinders. timing is set at 0* on the crank pulley, both cams are lined up w/ the marks, and CPS was set per TSRM. when cranking the tach jumps so im led to believe the CPS isnt the culprit. sometimes i get a bang out the exhaust mani but not like its trying to start, just a single bang (has only happened 3 times in the last 2 days.)
checked for codes but the CEL doesnt even blink.

im getting pretty frustrated now as the weather is really improving and damnit i wanna cruise around w/ the top off!!!!

any help is appreciated. thanks!!!

How did you determine you were getting fuel. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge?

Does the check engine light come on when you turn on the key like the rest of the warning lights? If it does not then you either have no power to the ecm or the bulb is burnt out. If you are comfortable with electrical and wiring issues we can tell you how to test for check engine light power with a test light or you can replace the bulb in the dash and see what happens.

Sounds like you may have more than one issue at hand. You should probably start by taking care of the chk eng light first.

the CEL does turn on after i try cranking it, but will not flash, even if i try to check codes while its on after i crank.

i know its gettin fuel becuase when it backfires a lil flame comes out the exhaust mani.
checked spark w/ a spark plug tester. one of these.
plug-tester.jpg

i can hear the fuel pump coming on, and after i try starting it smells more like gas than it did before.

Make sure you have your injectors connected in the right order.

Your saying when you jumper Te1 and E1 on the diagnostic port by the battery with the key on your chk engine light does not flash?

and yes, when i jump those 2 it doesnt blink

Connectors on the injectors alternate red and white but I forget which order. Hopefully one of our brothers can offer up the answer to which color cyl number one is.

As for your chk eng light not flashing we will need a little background on your build. Was it a jdm swap? Has the ECM been changed? Stock harness? Any piggyback controllers or other gear hacked into the harness? Any other oddball info you can think of? Otherwise it's time to trace down the diagnosis circuit and hope the ECM is okay.

(see question 3 on step 2 of the diagnostic tree)

i replaced all of the plugs during the engine rebuild.

i used an 87 (i think) engine and ripped it down and replaced the pistons, rings, timing belt, water pump, bearings, and installed a greddy MHG. used everything else off the old motor including the harness cuz the plugs matched up to my 89 n/a chassis (which is the car im using.) no mods at all at this time.

So..... does that mean you did a turbo engine swap into an N/A chassis like I asked you in my previous post?

Trying to help is not easy if we don't get the info we need.

Did you use a turbo car harness?

Did you switch to a turbo car ECM?

Well. All things being equal, I suggest going back to post #9 and track down the issue with your ECM and check engine light. Fix that issue first.

If I read your post right you used an '87 7mgte, harness and ECM but your build thread shows an ECM that states 1990 rhd? Not sure of the differences or compatability between 87 harness and 90 ECM and it's to late to chk tonight. I'll chk in tomorrow after some research.

i forgot about that thing. i ended up not even being able to use that ECU so i just used the factory one from the 87 7mgte.

during the day im going to check the isc valve, AFM, CSI and time switch, nolenoid resistor, and O2 sensor.
im betting its something small and stuipd like it always is....:nono:

Not a single thing you listed there will keep your car from starting.

Also, I checked my car last night and number one cyl injector clip is white.

well all of the inj clips are white but i compared it to the jdm harness i have and it looks like everything is correct. re-calibrated the CPS just in case... no change. although it backfires when i stop cranking more than it did before but not every time.

do you think old gas could be preventing it from starting?

Um...(hears demonic organ music in background) how old? Last year old or the previous owner voted for Nixon old?

Next question. Do you own or have access to a multi meter?

1. Ya, drain and replace that fuel, pull the spark plugs.

2. Next chk every fuse in the driver's side kick panel fuse box.

3. Then, use your multi meter to check that diag circuit. If the circuit chks good then the TSRM says try another ECU

i'll replace the fuel tomorrow, all the fuses are good. im tryin to schedule w/ a local to try my ECU on his running car and his ECU on my car.
