Wondering about a Holset turbo

My dad recently purchased a Dodge Cummins engine for his boat from a junk yard, and he didn't want the turbo. He went back the next day after they had taken out the engine and the turbo was still attached, he said he didn't need it but they gave it to him for free cos they didn't wanna bother with taking it off.

Anyways I know if I asked him for it that he'd give it to me since he has no use for a turbo. I'm starting with a 2jz swap in my 86.5 supra and I was wondeirng if anyone knew if the WH1C Holset turbo was a decent choice. I did some searches here and on google and apparently it's similar to the HX35. Anyways just thought I'd ask if it'd be a good choice for a 2jz and just in case anyone else had the same question in the future about WH1c turbo's and did a search.

In theory (or at least my head) that thing will spool quicker than stock twins in TTC on a 2jz, it also has the ability to make 500whp at ~ 24-25psi. Unfortunately, I dont think that they make a t3 manifold for the 2jz so you might need to go custom, or use a t3-t4 adapter.

If you run it, use a -3 feed, with a -10 return. A -4 will be too much oil I think.

Oh ok, thanks for the info. So for the T3 manifold, could I just get a different manifold and weld a T3 flange on there? I'm kind of new to tuning, but I do have my degree in welding, so I mean if I need to weld anything regarding that, then I know I can do it.

That might work, and the best design would be a split pulse, to spool up even faster. When I finish my setup, I should be fully spooled by 4k on my 1jz using hx35 with the stock backhousing.

They are old but indestructable.

Yeah 4k full boost should be doable on that setup. Have any way to raise the rev limit? Maybe run a 1j ecu or aem or something.

is that turbo pretty old? if so you might want to rebuild it so u don't have to do it later

It looks kinda old. Is it hard to re-build them or is it a job I'd wanna leave to a shop?

my USDM twins in TTC (valves removed) made 18 psi by 3800rpms.

And this turbo on my 1jz should be doing about the same, if not 200rpm later. Add in .5l and it should be slightly lower than that.

Just throwing the numbers out there. A lot of people think TTC is slow, and just wanted to show its not tooooo bad (for the power it is, but not like 4200 with the 2nd turbo comes in in sequential)
