After tracking the vac leak and getting it idleing good, and now I have coolant pouring from my block. I give up, I'm tired of putting all this time into it just to get nowhere. My luck has always been bad with Supras, for some reason. I made sure it was coming from the block and not a hose or something.

So I call the mechanic at Minike and they look at it. The guy says I have a BHG and I need a new intake manifold (Mine is mysteriously cracked?)

I LOVE MY SUPRA  :sarcasm:

How does a cracked intake = leaking coolant?
I would more suspect an expansion plug has let go. A head gasket is very unlikely to spill coolant outside of the block.

Which side is it on? Expansion plus are a possible culprit (they do suck). Have you seen a crack in the block? I wouldn't beleive it till I saw it. Though massive coolant loss will lead to bhg....and worse.

The intake is cracked because you didn't clean all the old gasket off. Old cast aluminum is pretty brittle, so when you tightened the bolts with little pieces of hardened gasket left in there, they created high spots that you were trying to bend the intake around. Ask me how I know... Don't worry, its a mistake that you (hopefully) only make once.

And yeah, I'd check the freeze plugs as well. I've only ever seen one h.g. leak outside the block.

I honestly don't know why it did it. Must have been a flaw in the gasket, as that was the only place it was leaking. 4 cyl. Dodge that died and wouldn't start. Turned out it was shooting water right on the distributor.

No they werent! I made lots of money on the first gen oil leaks. Those were great little cars for me. Of course Chrysler redesigned the head gasket and ruined all of my fun.

89 Dodge Dakota, 4 cyl. 5 speed. The one with the distributor mounted low on the side of the block.

There's always the 2.7l intrepids....

you're forgetting there is a small passage for coolant to go through in the intake manifold flange, more than likely that's the spot it's leaking from because the manifold is cracked there...

What is this passage for? You're right, I dont recall this passage. I know there is coolant at the TB but I cant place it in the manifold flange.

it's there, trust me on this one...

there is a small copper washer in the gasket that likes to stick really well, and if you don't scrape it off well enough, you crack the manifold at that spot...

I think it's the return line from the CSI back to the head, and it will leak if the manifold isn't tightened from the inside to the outside 50% of the time.

I know the spot your talking about, it does exist and seems like a good spot to leak from.

The leak is coming from a hose somewhere thats cracked. He did a compression test that made him assume I had a bhg near cyl #3. He can tell my intake is cracked because is a loud suction noise.

And after inspecting the crack, I can see where the previous owner tried to seal it up, and it progressively got bigger. Also the harness clip for my TPS is pretty much completely gone.
