Wiring prob - 7mge - 7mgte.

Hi, Just done an engine swap from the 88 non turbo supra to the 90 turbo. We're working first on the 1990 supra which now has the 1988 7m-ge engine in it, in hope that if we can get this running ok we can sell it to get a few quid back. Anyway, we've done quite well and it is up and running, however, we're stuck on a few wires..

There's a grey connector coming from the dash near the ECU and a yellow connector coming from the wiring loom on the engine. We know some of the wires going to these connectors power the gauges but we believe some are for the auto box or the automatic box ECU. We've cut the connectors off and joined them colour for colour but if you select 2nd gear on the autobox it shorts the dashboard out and drive doesn't have much power as if the auto gearbox ecu is disconnected.

Apart from this, the engine is running sweet with the 88 harness and main ECU, Can anyone help with these last few wires please ? We've looked at the TSRM wiring diagrams but it looks like spagetti. Thanks, Eggybread !

Well, from the sounds of it, you put the '88 motor in the '90 chassis, and tried using the engine wiring harness from the '88.

You'd have been much better off using an 89.5+ 7MGE automatic harness with it, so it'd be plug 'n play. ;)

Thanks for the reply. Is it possible to connect these wires that we have ? Just to get the autobox running right as the engine runs perfectly.

im not 100% on this but i believe those wires are for the ABS, is the ABS light on?

i used a yellow plug 88 harness on my early 89 grey plug, and those plugs you described are there.

you might have to find a wiring diagram, i know they changed wire colors between years.

oh but mines a 5-spd so it might not be the same.

To start off with, are the plugs you're talking about on the wiring harness from the motor, or the ones that they connect to?

Is your yellow connector is it quite small compared to the other ones around it? How many wires are coming from it, and what colors are there?

Also the Gray connector how many wires does it have, Also if you could get the colors from it , that would be great. and from what you said [ powers dash gauges ] and such, it is your M1 plug.

Anyhow let me know what you come up with I will try to help you through this.

Thanks for helping, It is the small yellow connector (M1) which is on the 88 harness and the 90 wiring from the dash is a larger grey plug. We've got all the gauges working and now sorted the dashboard shorting out in 2nd gear, however still no power in drive... There's a small white plug coming from the engine harness of which the wiring to it doesn't match up with the dash connector it clips into. Also the large yellow block doesn't have as many wires as the corresponding grey block from the dash which it connects to (this grey connector is the largest square one). Would also be great if i could get the pin-outs for the white connector and this largest grey block. Is there anything clearer on the TSRM than the broken paged wiring diagram ? Thanks again for any help.

This white plug how many wires are on it? Also what colors are these plugs. The turbo model is different but I would like to see the plug you're looking at,

We're putting the 1988 non turbo engine into the 1990 turbo supra. As you pull the harness through the firewall, there's 3 ECU plugs, The m1 plug and 1 Small white plug with about 7 or 8 wires on it and the large grey square plug. The 1988 harness has yellow ECU plugs but they're grey on the 1990 Turbo. The engine runs fine, its just the gearbox that doesn't seem to be getting a signal to tell it it is in drive.
