Wiring my boost gauge.

so i spent the afternoon trying to figure out how to wire this gauge because i dont have an instruction manual. anyhow.

they gauge turns on when i turn the car on. so that was successful. but i cant get it to read anything other than 1 bar of vacuum. i think something is wrong with my sensor.

here is how i have it wired.

from the gauge:

red-ignition
black-ground
white- connects to sender from sensor
purple - ???? not sure

from the sendor

vac line- hooked up to a vac line
black- ground
red-battery
white-sender to gauge.

here is the problem. when the white wire isnt hooked up it reads 2.0 bar with the warning light (pegged high)

when i hook up the white wires, it pegs low and reads -1 bar. whether the car is on or off or at any boost level.

when i unhook the black wire on the sensor, the gauge immediately goes back to 2.0bar witht he warning light.

when i unhook the red wire on the sensor, the gauge does not change. it remains at -1bar. i tried hooking it up to the igntion but that doesnt do anything either.

i figured with the car not running it should read 0 psi, and with it running it should be around -.4 bar. but it always stays at -1bar.

any ideas?

did you have to tap a vac line anywhere?

yeah. i ran it from the vac line going to my bov. but even when it isnt hooked up it should read 0bar not -1bar

hit us with some pics. much easier that way. :icon_bigg

hah ok. but it is a rediculous mess of wiring right now between the two gauges. i will get some next time im at the shop

if im not correct it should be t'd off from the back of the motor near the intake manifold, look around for a boost pressure unit(think thats waht its called" and it should have a line to T' from. make sure tee as close as you can to that unit. if not im thinkin ur boost gauge is busted

anyone have pics of what the stock gauge looks like?

even with it unhooked it should read 0bar and it doesnt. thats why im pretty sure it has nothing to do with where it is hooked up at.

I think u maybe making it more difficult than it really is. haha if i were you id tap the vaccume line somewere else. Mine is the nipple behind the intake manifold going to the stock gauge

Gotta T off a vac line after the TB or you will only read vacumm or boost when the throttle is open. I can look on my car tomorow for you where I hooked mine up to.

that would be very helpful thankyou.

but this still isnt why the gauge wont give a reading.

it reads -1bar if the ground on the sensor is grounded, whether the red wire is connected to power or not. but as soon as i remove the ground it goes to +2bar.

I have mine hooked up to the little metal line running with the 3000 pipe. Also where my BOV is hooked up too.

Just source the vac from the line which runs to the stock boost gauge and CC.

While you're fighting with this, try just hooking it all up in the engine bay; easier to experiment with the wiring and you can leave the car off and just blow into the sensor's vac hose to test.

yeah i cant figure this out. i bought another gauge (prosport) and hooked it up. it lights up and drops to -20psi and then slowly climbs to +30psi where it maxes out and stays there.
