Windshied Washer Reservoir Differences

This may seem a bit of an obscure thing to care about but I am looking at buying a new windscreen washer reservoir, and the JDM part number is no longer available new so I have to turn to the USDM equivalents.

I cant fathom any possible compatibility issue given its location on the car, the only difference I can conceive is that the US ones may also have provision for the headlight washer motor.

That being said there are quite a few different part numbers available according to the EPC, and I am unsure what the deal is, the only thing I can notice is that 91/92 seem to have a different lid and it sits higher, flush with the trim panel behind the headlight rather than lower down on the earlier ones like mine.

Are there any other differences, most notably in terms of capacity, I would prefer as much capacity as possible as I will be using it for a water injection reservoir, which is partly why I wanted to get a new reservoir too

Well, the taller one will have more compacity. I know mine holds damn near a whole bottle of windshield washer fluid...

Another note - if you're adding a pump for that water injection, careful where you mount it. My first one was mounted in a non-weatherproof area, and odd though it may sound, the water pump is not water proof.

After that one died from terminal corrosion inside the electric motor, my new one was mounted in the hatch.

I recall you changed yours, I thought it was just to a later model JDM/AUS one and it had more capacity? I dont think any AUS or JDM cars had the headlight washers

As per IJs changeover I suspected the pre-88 to have less capacity, the extra height in the 91 is just the neck so I cant see that having much impact?

Thanks I'll keep that in mind, I'm going to mounit it where people sometimes hide their fuse boxes, mith a bit of shielding I guess. I run all the factory weather protection pieces (bought them all new to make sure they wont fall off lol)

I guess the other thing is for me to figure out which part number is which so I can call the dealer tonight and order, I need to keep the momentum going on the build

Do any of the US ones have a level sensor by any chance?

The one I used came from a buds JDM car, Snow do a level sensor.

My first Supra an 87 without washers took almost a full bottle the same as my 91. I can't tell a difference, but I don't pay attention to those things.

Headlight washer one was at least 1 litre bigger than the 86.5 one I had.

No level sensor (though if your rear washer stops working it means you're low).

I don't have headlight washers on mine either.

Really, I found it really easy to remove

Anyway looks like they arent available new so I'll just get a good S/H JDM one and start modding, although maybe I can fit a reservoir for the injection back where the electric aerial lived

My bad as I do recall you talking about meth when I rang you re other stuff but I was not planning on doing it then.

Any tips on what to use to clean the reservoir out really good? I did spend ages cleaning mine anyway but now its going to be feeding the motor want to do a really good job.

You didnt have any pics of where you put the level sensor or the feed line for the meth?

I had this other idea of putting a separate reservoir in the inner bumper area, and running a fat line between the top of the windhsield reservoir and the separate water injection reservoir, so that way it can be hidden and you dont need to access it as you can fill it by filling the windshied reservoir

I see the level sensor, I just need a few minutes to wake my brain up to spot the line for the pump, is that the red one right next to one of the motors?

I had the pump line plumbed into the raised section between the little pumps, that way once it stopped sucking there was still some water left for washing the screen, the fitting isn't in that pic but you can see it's hole.

Was about 3.2L usable capacity, flat out a couple of minutes but by that time you've entered the "lost licence" zone anywhere in Australia

lol yeah thats what I was thinking too

I am thinking I might use the check engine light to display when the reservoir is empty, or have the SDL strobe a message lol

+ set the ECU to pull it back to just the WG/safe setting, a flow meter input is also handy to protect the engine.
