Is it possible to re-wire the power window switches so that each window motor has a simple aftermarket 3-way switch like this one.

I want two of these switches on the drivers door (one for each window), and one on the passenger door. Is this possible or am I doomed to have the stock switch.

It's possible, but you'll loose the auto up/down (unless you also install an aftermarket controller). Also you'll need to make sure you use a momentary switch... it'd such to burn out your window motor because you didn't realize you bumped the switch. The TEWD will give you everything you need.

I don't care about the auto up/down feature. I need to make liitle cages to protect them from getting hit since they will be mounted low. Should be simple enough. The hard part will be figuring out how to wire them up.

I will be building custom door panels shortly out of wood (until I can have them made out of aluminum). I want a cleaner look. I'm also re-designing my interior door handles. Shouldn't be too hard.

Toyo4life, any idea of how I could wire these up if I were to find 5 wire switches? I'd prefer to have one switch for each window (momentary on-off-on) so that the drivers door has a switch for both windows, and the passenger door has it's own switch.

If your bent on using these switches you will need 2 relays per window 4 total. I scribbled down the way to wire each motor.

Sorry if it looks like crap but I'm a better Installer than illistrator. Oh and remember to fuse your power source if your not using the existing one in the door.

Oh and if I were doing custom door panels and wanted to get rid of the awkward switches from the supra I would look to lift a switch group from a Tacoma 2 door or solara .They are far better ergonomic designs.

Ergonomic design doesn't matter to me. My new panels are going to be flat sheet metal with beads rolled into them. That's one more reason I want to use aftermarket switches. I want the interior to have that really simple look. Thanks for the drawing, I'll have someone who can read wiring diagrams do it for me since I understand the basics of wiring, but can't understand a diagram to save my soul.

JJ's right, a momentary DPDT switch will work out the easiest.

Go to www.digikey.com

Search: EG2419-ND

It's a 5A, mom-off-mom, DPDT, looks like the one you posted a pic of. The switch actuator is .41". Here's the datasheet.

IF 5A is too low (I haven't looked into how much current the window motors draw), try this one: 360-1195-ND It's rated for 15A. The switch actuator is 35". (Pic)

I would go for at least a 10A switch. IIRC the motors will typically draw about 2A while in motion and about 10A when they hit the end of the regulator's travel. 15A would be safer.

Like I said In my post If he was bent on these switches he needs relays. In my post before that I said he should use 5 wire switches. I have 6 wire switches in stock. they are illuminated flush rockers from spal with the window up down logos on them.

And unless your regulators are in very good shape and run very smooth I would fuse them at 25 to 30 amps. The Spal window kits come fused at 25 amps per window motor.
