Ok so my father decided to have my head machined, so i asked a friend who built a beautiful 2JZ where i should take my head. He suggested this repair shop about 40min where i live. Anyways what im concerned with is the actually deck (i guess thats what its called) of the head, it was really dirty before we dropped it off, and now the surface is somewhat smooth but you can feel and see some scratches, and what i can best describe as chips sort of. Will this cause a problem, this is the first time ive had something like this done so i didnt know what to look for? Im using a OEM Headgasket, ARP bolts. And i only sit at around 300~HP

Ive provided a picture as seen here.

You can see the fine scratches that can still be felt around the combustion chamber

Thanks

Forget about the OEM headgasket, your just asking to redo this same process again. Call suprasport and get the 1.2mm HKS HG for $105

If they are slight, then a stock headgasket will be able to seal all that. If you were going to use a Metal head Gasket, then the surface smoothness is definitley a concern.

Would you consider this slight?

Used Macro and Flash so you could see it better.

You can feel them, but i wouldnt know how to determine if it will seal or not, for the most part it is smooth. but the man assured me that the stock oem gasket would seal perfectly, my dad is convinced but im having my doubts.

did you receive the head in a bag? or was it just on a table somewhere? either way i would have it re-decked, but, measure the distance from the vavle cover gasket to the 'deck' height, because that will determine how large of a HG you buy... the 1.2 will most likely raise your compression more than you think.

The machinist told my dad when he went to pick it up that the head was straight and had no warpage so all he did was clean up the deck and the head. I dont know how it was recieved when i got home from work late tuesday night it was on a workbench where my dad had installed the cams, bearing caps, etc.

well then the question is who scratched it all up? because it sounds like your dad did...

if your going to use an OEM style gasket, you'll be fine. but dont hope for a awesome seal with a MHG...

Believe me had no intention of doing a MHG, i have a oem toyota gasket ready to go on the car, its just i wanted to be sure, this is the first time ive ever gotten a job like this done and wanted to be sure, it would seal ok from the member whove done this more times than i can count. Should i do a copper spray on the gasket or will the stock graphite be sufficient enough.

My other head that sitting on the floor im gonna rebuild myself, and i think im gonna go someplace else this time, and take it myself.

I would recommend getting that surface machined, it looks like someone has been laying the head down on the machined surface and scratched it up. You will be much more confident after putting it back together knowing you have a proper seal.
