No one has directly responded to my original question, will ROD KNOCK be mistaken for ENGINE KNOCK as far as the knock sensor reading?

yes, the knock sensors DO detect knock. they wont throw a CEL for knock, but they'll retard the timing and enrichen the fuel mixture. you just wont know it until it's audible knock. (or when you realize that your car is running even more rich than it should, and coughing/sputtering when you floor it)

the KS's will only throw a CEL if: the wiring is bad, a KS is bad, or if it's unplugged. code 52 is to let you know the operating status of the actual KS circuit, NOT that you have knock.

In thus shaeff already answered your question. Yes it will detect knock but you wont notice that its detected it until you hear it (by then its waay too late).

because you have to remove the block to do it and then you have to worry about contaminants in your oil...I have a NA-T and I spliced the two together.

How long does the timing stay retarded? Seconds? Milliseconds? Till next start? If this is true, then higher octane gas could yeild more power if knocking is changine the ECU timing at high boost levels.

the knock sensor hears knock and detonation and will retard the timing to prevent engine damage.
