hi everyone, we have rebuilt the supra turbo, initially could not get it to start,
we have re-checked the timing and re done the cps unit, engine cranks slightly faster than it did before the rebuild, is running very rich(sooted up new plugs in less than 3 weeks) this is not being driven, just started up. takes a while to start but will only rev up to about 1800 then starts to cough splutter and backfire, has anyone got any other ideas as to what could be causing the car not to rev,

cheers in advance dazza

have you checked for codes? i had a similar problem with my rebuild. it turned out i had a bad TPS and it wasn't letting me rev past 2000rpm. or it could possibly be the afm. but i say definitely check for codes first.

Did you mess with the tps? One time I didn't install the tps correctly and it did as you described. Idled perfect but wouldn't rev over 2000. it acted like it was hitting fuel cut.

the only codes that have shown up came up with crank sensor??????? i am pretty sure it aint got one we looked all round and nothing down there. we have re-done the cps unit with the how to on here so pretty sure that is ok, we have just found one multiplug not connected next to the gearbox under the inlet, cant see anywhere it could plug into( were they're any plugs that went into an autobox as this is now manual)
as it is not throwing up any other fault codes it is getting really confusing

the cps is on the exhaust side right behind the power steering resevior. the tps is on the throttle body. i would check to make sure that is adjusted right. and as for the "crank sensor" code you found there is no crank sensor. i'd check the codes again. what number code is it?

Yeah thats the cps (cam positioning sensor) I am talking about the sensor that goes on the throttle body next to the iscv if you haven't messed with the tps Then thats not you problem. But if you have then you might want to reinstall it to make sure you catch the little valve in the throttle body.

check, afm, then cps, then timing, then tps...thats what i would do in that order...look it up in the tsrm

This....timing includes your cps position as well as making sure your cam timing marks are lined up properly when your crank timing mark reads 0 degrees.

the air flow meter is plugged in, the timing and cps unit are all spot on, got to check the throttle position sensor this evening. Then it will have to be the injector wiring, been told that can be plugged in incorrectly and cause problems ( does anyone know where i can find details of multiplugs etc, or know it off the top of they're head)
