Yeah somebody answer this thread!!!!! I ordered sportmax 962 in 17x9 all around but they are out of stock. What will I have to do to my sup to run 18x 8.5 in front w 225 40 and 18x9.5 in back w 245 40? How do I make this work because 18s will look siiiiiiiick!!!!.

I have 18" but with 225 also and it works fine dropped on coilovers. However, if you run a larger rim and tire combo it will probably rub.

Guys, what are your offsets? You should really do some research on your rims for you up and buy them :3d_frown:.
No need to worry, I have been researching these rims for quite a while, but forgot to list the offset...it is 35 and I have already calculated it on 1010. I just finalized it in the last hour anyway so...it will be Sportmax 18x8.5 in front wrapped in nexen N3000 225 40 and in back 18x9.5 245 40 They will be dope... oh yes they will be dope!!!!

OK... wheel height does not matter - until you get above 20". You could run a 20" rim without problems as long as it isn't TOOO wide. The Stock MkIV rims are 9.5" wide in the back and they fit just fine.

Now back to those 20" rims. If you run a 255/25/20 tire on those rims you will match the exact overall dimensions of the MkIV rim/tire - that works so nicely. If you try to change that middle number (or go too crazy with the first number you will risk rubbage.

Likewise... if you run the stock 16" rims (sawblades or 5 spokes) you too can have the same problem with rubbage if you try to go too crazy with the tire size. Remember that stock is 225/50/16. Try putting on a 255/60/16 and you may have problems

Just an example: I have a set of 18" rims waiting for rubber. Fronts are 8.5" w/ a 38mm offset. Rears are 9.5 w/ a 45mm offset. I have seen these rims on just one other Supra and they fit beautifully! (he actually got his rims AFTER I got mine - copycat bastard). ;)

Now comes the topic of tires...

I'll be running a 255/35/18 in the back and that will match exactly the MkIV tire/rim combo and put my speedo off by just a hair (hardly even noticeable)

Read the faq in the faq section - it was recently updated to include the MkIV rim information. Use the two links in that thread - and a little bit of brain power - and you'll be able to figure out where the sweet spot is.

Maintain the same (or close) overall diameter, don't go too crazy on the width, and watch your offset.

Can you run a 355/35/16 without modifications? I would doubt it.

This is where the calculators - see the links in the ref/techtips section - come in handy.

With a 17" rim and 275s - you need to find tires with a 35 sidewall (275/35/17) to come close to the factory sizing - you will be traveling at 59.3mph when your speedo reads 60. - found using the tire size calculator

Now... flip over to the offset calculator and do some quick math. The MkIV rims are 9.5" (rear) with a 50 offset. Your 9" wheel with 35 offset will have 21mm more inner clearance (to the shock etc) and will ride 9mm out further on the outside. The 9.5" rim with 35 offset will have 15mm more inner clearance and will sit out 15mm. Will this be out far enough to rub on the fender? That is a good question. Go out and measure how much space you have currently.
*** Remember that this is compared to the MkIV rims. You will have to enter the MkIII rim info (or whatever rims you are currently running) into the calculator to get a direct comparison.
