90 Stock gasket.JPG90 Close up of block.JPG90 Close Up Coolant passage.JPG90 Head Resurfaced.JPGHere is my situation I bought a motor and made sure the owner took the head off before i got it. As you can see from the pics the HG and block is good. Well got the head back from the machine shop just to have it cleaned up and checked for warpage. The head is straight but there is some corrosion on the head. The shop said that a MHG may not seal correctly. Should I go a head complete the process of getting the block and head prepped for MHG or just stick with OEM HG because its more forgiving?

if its a 7mgte than yes get the head and block properly deck and leveled, lapped, you need the smoothest surface possible from the block and head like mirror finish, 7mge just use a OEM HG and torque to 72 ft lbs, and try to clean to the surfaces as best as possible.

Hm, your pictures are not that good, but I think I can see on the block, the typical surface indentation around the combustion chambers where the metal part of the stock head gasket wiggled around.
If that is even just a few thousands of an inch deep, no, you will not get a 100% seal with a metal gasket at the important area (around the combustion chambers).
That will allow high pressure/high temp gasses to pass from the chambers into the water passages.
It won't blow a metal head gasket, but you will forever be chasing heating issues, and coolant loss.

The light corrosion on the head is not a problem, as it doesn't extend into either the chamber sealing area, or the outside of the block.

So if your just going to run stock boost, and always run good gas, then stay with a stock gasket.
But if you plan on doing performance mods, deck the block, and go with the metal gasket.

If you are putting an MHG on, you will always want to get it resurfaced. Anything less is gambling. The tolerances are so little that 95% of the time it ends up failing prematurely if you don't.
