Will EGR's leak rather easily under higher boost?

My EGR leaks a lot. Causes me high idle and very choppy acceleration. You can't really repair as far as i know (let me know if you can). So my question is, if i got a replacement (used, new is too much$$) do the EGR's tend to leak when you start pushing the boost levels over 11PSI or do they hold rock steady w/a lot more boost.

I ask b/c i'm trying to decide if i should just block them off. I'd prefer to keep it on since i have emissions in my state and there are benefits to it, but if it will only cause problems then it needs to go.

I have an EGR on my car and boost up to 15 PSI just fine. My EGR is new though. It helps to keep the engine cool, thereby reducing the Nitrous Oxide emissions.

Leaks where? There is nothing on the valve that can't be repaired if you have the ability and gear. That said if the diaphragm is torn you should just replace the entire valve. EGR is off at idle and above appx 4000 rpm so I don't see how it could be effecting idle unless it's leaking across the pintle. That wouldn't cause a high idle though. It'd be very rough. Be more specific about where and how it's leaking.

Well as you know its a tuff area, so i couldn't see exactly. When i boost leak tested the system i felt the air escaping from the holes in the bottom and/or around the crimp. Thats just a best guess though. My idle is around 1K and acceleration stutters A LOT seemingly like a misfire, most noticeably when under boost or up a hill. When i browse through the TSRM, the troubleshooting points me towards the EGR in all my symptoms.

Any codes like 51? I would check out the Idle Speed Control valve and TPS for the high idle. Are all your intercooler pipes connected properly? Check that accordian hose too.

No leaks except EGR. Boost tested. TPS just replaced cause it was bad, i have SAFCII to monitor it. ISC is my next guess but first i want to fix EGR first as i know its bad and TSRM suggests high/poor idle caused by faulty EGR as well as acceleration problems which i also have.

Edit: no codes

Well you can

1- purchase a brand new EGR valve
2- purchase a working used one
3- take off and pitch the current EGR valve, close it all off

Do a search to see what others have done. I have mine on because of strict emissions in PA (as you). If I were you I would do #2.

^thats what i'm leaning towards, i just need to make sure it just won't blow again. I'm also waiting on what Jetjock has to say as to whether its toast or not.
