i would make sure you didn't leave any tools or anything in around engine bay. if it happened immediately after the oil change, as long as you had proper oil/level in it when you started it. its prolly somthing YOU did

is it all the time or just driving? and thats an ugly sound im imagining.

go through the checklist of tools and such, make sure you got everything out from under the hood and got everything filled/tightened properly

i am extremely cautious about putting tools and other things in the engine bay i had a horrible experience with hitting my girlfriend with a broken fan blade after leaving a socket wrench in there. i checked my tool case and the 3 tools i used were put back.

the noise happens only around 1000 rpm and it goes away until around 2000 rpm and thats it. the noise isnt extremely loud or anything its just embarrassing and scary.

could it be the oil filter? maybe i did something? thats about the only thing i can think that would make the car make the noise and thats close to where the noise is coming from but not exactly

Are you sure it's the right filter and nothing like oil is comming out the bottom? I know those are simple questions but if that's all you did....

well the only way the oil filter is wrong is if autozone gave me the wrong size and i dont think oil is coming out from it but i have to check when i get home.. any kind of diagnosis question is a smart 1 to ask because what if that 1 simple thing someone might have left out can be the simple reason why someone can blow their engine

well its not leaking from the filter so i dunno what to do... i really need to get rid of that engine. ive put more money into it than the engine is really worth.. o well just gonna throw it in with the other unsolved mysteries of the shitty engine

did you prime the oil system after you changed the oil? im not sure if that would cause rodknock so soon, but its a possibility

im pretty sure its not rod knock.. had it on my celica and it sounds way different.... i didnt prime the system.. i did a quick, drain oil, remove filter , apply oil to filter gasket and install new filter, and filled it back up... i let the oil drain for about 5 minutes and after i filled it up i took a shower and then started it up and the levels and everything was ok but about 10 minutes later it developed the weird rattle

Sounds like you did everything right with regards to the simple oil change. There is no need to "prime" your oiling system with a simple oil change.

Don't worry about rod knock if you have oil pressure and never ran low on oil.

Bad rod knock is LOUD and does not sound anything like an aluminum can scraping anything. It sounds like someone is literally hammering your engine block. (someone as in, one of your connecting rods ;))

Keep the motor filled with oil and don't freak out over a noise which you can't narrow down.

However I still stand by my statement that 99 times out of 100, the weak link in the MKIII is the owner.

Hmmm...

if it's still making the noise try getting a mechanic's stethoscope and pinpointing it

well im only a 17 year old teen with limited time and money so if you think im the "weak link" to my mkiii, which ive invested well over the actual value of the car itself, even with the little time i have set aside from school and planning for a baby on the way. just because i choose to take an easier route on getting my primary source of transportation, which is desperately needed right now, to be considered a reliable source than thats pretty judgmental considering you dont know the cicumstances i am in... if i had the time and money to fix a crappy n/a engine with more problems than a mental institution than trust me, i would

suprarx7nut: thanks for your input. thats just what i plan to do because the noise sounds scary but not too serious. also, i had rod knock in my celica until the car finally gave up and it was a way worse sound than this.
