Ok i am having my block shaved and board. i understand the timing cover needs to be bolted on but why does the timing idler pulley need to be torqued down? im not arguing i just want to understand what this does.

It needs to be torqued to 36ft/lbs. It will make the first cylinder an oval if not bored with it. If you are not boring the block, just bolt the timing plate on.

yes, if you bore the cylinders you need to bolt the idler on and have it torqued down to the TSRM spec.. If you go more or not have it on it will oval out no 1 cyl like IBoughtASu.... holy look at the avatar nice ass.... pra said...

Correct, IJ. I believe was the one who measured actual deflection in the cylinder wall. I don't recall what that exact amount was, but it's enough that you want that tensioner torqued down to spec when getting the block bored.
