Superjustin13: It's not up to me, but I for one, do appreciate your help.

For the record, I am not saying your theory on over heating is wrong. It is totally possible imo. ;)

Rapid temperature change can cause a crack.

Since it is right on the bolt hole, that is probably the problem. And since he said he put a breaker bar on it, then that is even more likely.

Could a frost crack let coolant into the head bolt threads through the crack, then rust up and cause the same problem breaking the bolts loose? Just a thought.. :)

There doesn't appear to be rust or tearing in the hole. Maybe the shock load of it breaking free, and the metal in poor condition.

The threads on the bolt were fine. That bolt was not as tight as the rest but was still tight. I remember that bolt because it was the only one that came out wet with coolant. (I was worried about a blown hg)
I went and looked at all the head bolts and they all look fine.

Imo. there could be 2 things caused.

1. The block heating up, (overheating) and the block Disipating the heat to Fast.. Looks like a crack due to heating to me

2. There was Shit in the hole when he tightened down the headbolt which caused it to crack

looks to me like a headgasket repair.. possibly torqued way too tight with crud in the threads, and then overheated.

Yep - that's what it looks like to me. This is why you want to chase your head bolt holes before you install that shiney new ARP hardware ;)

On the week end I pulled the engine apart and found a few strange things.
I found red rtv sealant on the front ngk crankshaft seal and oil pump shaft seal (koyo is stock I believe). Also on the spark plug cover (the threads of the thing with the large 14mm allen heads) and the rear coolant hoses. I can't see a professional mech. doing these things. I'm geussing an amateure hg replacement that was way over torqued, and possibly the other contributing factors mentioned. heat or something in the threads.

And to show Joel W's theory is possible here is a pic from the local machine shop. Its was a blown 454 inboard boat motor that had water in it over winter.
(we have mild winters where I live only got about -2)
