Back in the 70's and 80's we had a cabin upstate New York, pretty close to Lake George. There was a mountain road nearby. Local residents (including my parents) constantly complained for
years that it needed a guardrail on one curve because there was a 250 ft drop there, and the existing "guardrail" consisted of a row of rocks that were about 6" tall and 1' around that some resident had put there, spray painting them yellow.
One night a van full of kids went off the side, it killed all of them.
Two days later they put up the guardrail...
